The Nationals are hiring Corey Ray as their first base coach.

The Nationals hired the youngest manager in 53 years when they picked 33-year-old Blake Butera to man the helm. Now they’ll have a 31-year-old coaching first base. Ray, the fifth overall pick in the 2016 draft, got one at-bat with the Brewers in 2021 and retired at 27 after the 2022 season. He’s joining the Nationals after managing for the Cubs in the ACL the last two years.

Yandy Díaz (oblique) remained out of the Rays’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s tilt against the Giants.

It’s the second straight start that the 34-year-old slugger has missed after exiting Friday’s game with tightness in his oblique. The Rays still seem optimistic that it’s a minor issue and won’t require a trip to the injured list, but oblique injuries are notoriously tricky and can tend to linger. Fantasy managers may want to have a contingency plan in place in the event that Díaz isn’t able to go next week.

Christian Walker (head) returned to the Astros’ starting lineup for Sunday’s matchup against the Red Sox.

Walker was removed from Saturday’s contest after he was drilled in the head by a 93-mph fastball. He passed all of his concussion tests without issue though and is feeling much improved on Sunday. He’s back in there at first base and batting cleanup against Red Sox’ southpaw Ranger Suarez.

George Springer

TOR Right Fielder #4

George Springer (toe) is not in the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Twins in Minneapolis.

Springer was hit by a pitch on his left foot during Saturday’s game, though X-rays revealed no new damage, just the fracture in his left big toe that he has already been dealing with. The 36-year-old outfielder was going to sit on Sunday even before he made an early exit from Saturday’s game, so there’s no additional reason to worry here. He’s considered day-to-day.

CIN Relief Pitcher #78

Reds recalled RHP Zach Maxwell from Triple-A Louisville.

The 25-year-old hurler will add a fresh arm to the Reds’ bullpen while Pierce Johnson is away on bereavement leave. Maxwell really struggled through his first 12 appearances at the Triple-A level, registering a 5.91 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and a 17/8 K/BB ratio across 10 2/3 innings.

Reds placed RHP Pierce Johnson on the bereavement list.

The 34-year-old hurler will be away from the team for a couple of days. Johnson has been a capable addition to the Reds’ bullpen this season, compiling a 4.15 ERA 1.46 WHIP and a 13/4 K/BB ratio over his first 13 innings. Zach Maxwell was recalled from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.

Dunn was off to a solid start at the Triple-A level, slashing .277.365/.353 with one homer, 13 RBI and seven stolen bases across his first 138 plate appearances. He’ll function in a reserve outfielder role for the Reds and can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes. Rece Hinds was optioned to Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Reds optioned OF Rece Hinds to Triple-A Louisville.

Hinds really struggled in his limited action with the Reds, slashing a pitiful .121/.167/.212 with zero homers, five RBI and an 18/1 K/BB ratio in 36 plate appearances. That’s not going to get it done. He’ll return to an everyday role at the Triple-A level to work through his contact issues.

Hunter Stratton

Braves optioned RHP Hunter Stratton to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Stratton was just recalled on Friday, but he’ll head right back to Triple-A Gwinnett to make room on the active roster for Spencer Strider’s return on Sunday. Stratton has made just one appearance with the Braves this season, firing a scoreless inning while striking out one. It shouldn’t be long before he earns another opportunity with the big league club.

The 27-year-old right-hander will make his highly anticipated season debut on Sunday against the Rockies at Coors Field. He looked sharp during his recent minor league rehab assignments, but fantasy managers should probably wait and see what he looks like on Sunday before trying to rush him back into lineups.

Braves selected the contract of OF José Azócar from Triple-A Gwinnett.

The 29-year-old outfielder was off to a solid start at Triple-A Gwinnett, slashing .270/.348/.420 with a pair of homers, 11 RBI and eight stolen bases in his first 113 plate appearances. He’ll provide depth in the Braves’ outfield with Ronald Acuña Jr. (hamstring) sidelined.
