Bryan Woo allowed three runs with three strikeouts over seven innings in a loss against the Padres on Tuesday.
After two scoreless frames, the Padres got to Woo with three runs on four hits in the third inning. Woo would give the Mariners four more scoreless innings before departing after the seventh at 92 pitches. He struck out three. The 26-year-old right-hander is off to an outstanding start, posting a 2.16 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and a 20/5 K/BB ratio across 25 innings. He’ll look to keep it going against the Rangers in Seattle on Sunday.

Ben Rice is in the lineup at DH for Tuesday’s contest against the Orioles.
Paul Goldschmidt is at first base and leading off against Orioles lefty Trevor Rogers. Rice continues to see frequent opportunities against southpaws after taking a seat routinely against them earlier this season. The 27-year-old rising star launched his 13th round-tripper of the season during Monday’s series opener and has been one of the top power-hitters in baseball this year.
Mariners welcome Padres for Sunday Night Baseball
Interconference rivals go head-to-head on Sunday Night Baseball as the NL West leading San Diego Padres visit the Seattle Mariners.
  • NYY 2nd Baseman #13
Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Spencer Jones are on the bench Tuesday as the Yankees face Orioles left-hander Trevor Rogers.
The Yankees are choosing Ryan McMahon over the struggling Chisholm tonight, with Amed Rosario starting at second base, Trent Grisham and Ben Rice are in the lineup over Jones, who is on the bench for the first time in five games since his callup. Chisholm is 8-for-48 with one homer in his last 13 games. He’s also just 2-for-4 stealing bases during the stretch after going 9-for-10 previously.
  • WSH Relief Pitcher #39
Clayton Beeter, out since Apr. 23 with forearm soreness, is ready to begin a rehab assignment.
Beeter is in line to return next week if all goes well. He’ll likely resume challenging Gus Varland for saves, so Varland could definitely use a good week after allowing three runs in the eighth inning and taking a loss Sunday against the Marlins.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #45
Astros activated RHP Tatsuya Imai from the 15-day injured list.
Imai will face the Mariners tonight in his first start since walking four and giving up three runs in one-third of an inning against the same ballclub on Apr. 10. He walked eight and gave up six runs over five innings in his two rehab starts, so he’s not to be trusted in fantasy leagues at the moment.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #64
Astros optioned RHP Logan VanWey to Triple-A Sugar Land.
VanWey, who was called up on Friday, pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts in his two appearances over the weekend.
  • NYY Shortstop #72
The Yankees are planning to place José Caballero on the injured list with a finger injury and recall Anthony Volpe.
Francys Romero was the first to report that Volpe was on the way back to the majors. Still no word yet on the severity of Calabllero’s injury. He was hurt Sunday, but the Yankees used him as a pinch-runner in Monday’s game.
  • MIL Left Fielder #22
Brewers activated OF Christian Yelich from the 10-day injured list.
Tyler Black was sent down to make room. Yelich is back from a groin strain suffered exactly one month ago. He’ll surely DH most of the time for the Brewers, which will typically leave just one lineup spot for Garrett Mitchell and Jake Bauers against right-handers. That’ll have the Brewers picking between defense and offense, with Mitchell in center and Jackson Chourio in left or Chourio in center and Bauers in left. Bauers probably ought to be dropped in leagues in which he was picked up.
  • MIL 3rd Baseman #7
Brewers optioned INF/OF Tyler Black to Triple-A Nashville.
In spite of his success at the end of last month, Black wasn’t finding much playing time with Andrew Vaughn back, and now he also would have Christian Yelich to contend with. So, he’ll resume playing regularly in the minors after going 9-for-27 with four doubles and seven RBI during his 2 1/2 weeks in the majors.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #33
A.J. Minter threw a bullpen session Tuesday and expects to return to his rehab assignment by this weekend.
Minter, who is trying to come back from lat surgery, recently had a setback with his surgically repaired hip, causing him to be pulled off his rehab assignment last week. He might be back in the Mets bullpen by the end of the month.
  • LAA Right Fielder #7
Despite going 5-for-8 with two homers in his last two games, Jo Adell has been dropped to seventh in the Angels lineup on Tuesday.
Vaughn Grissom is replacing him in the fifth spot. Adell is hitting .279/.318/.418, but the Angels are apparently hoping to get more out of Grissom’s on-base ability. It’s the first time this season that Adell has hit lower than sixth.
