Esteury Ruiz went 2-for-4 with a homer as the Marlins’ No. 9 hitter in a 3-2 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.
He also stole a base. Ruiz, who was acquired from the Dodgers over the winter, was making his second start in six games since coming off the injured list last week. With his speed, he might be a fantasy factor if he ever convinces the Marlins to play him regularly. Still, that probably wouldn’t work out very well for the team. He’ll likely start mostly versus lefties for now.

JJ Bleday went 1-for-2 with a triple, a stolen base, two walks, and two RBI in the Reds’ 5-0 win over the Astros on Mother’s Day.
Bleday has been on fire since the Reds recalled him from Triple-A, and he was raking at that level before this too. His two RBI came on a fourth-inning triple against Astros SP Kai-Wei Teng. Bleday’s bat speed and expected stats are surging in a very small big-league sample. Even if it doesn’t last long, there could be streaming upside as the Nationals visit Great American Ballpark this week. Bleday, a former high-end draft pick, popped 24 homers in 2024 with the A’s. He’s been used as a near-everyday player since reaching Cincinnati, often batting second against right-handers.
Marlins throw Nats off with pressure on basepaths
Matt Vasgersian, Jeff Nelson and Kevin Frandsen share their biggest takeaways from the Marlins' 5-2 win over the Nationals, where Miami used pressure on the basepaths to fuel their Mother's Day win over Washington.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #41
Andrew Abbott improved to 2-2 on Sunday against the Astros, tossing six shutout innings while striking out five.
Abbott walked one and allowed three hits, dropping his ERA to 4.47 this season. The southpaw hasn’t defied his ERA estimators like he has historically despite generating more grounders in 2026. His next start lines up on the road in Cleveland.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #17
Kai-Wei Teng took the loss on Sunday in Cincinnati, allowing three runs on five hits over three innings pitched.
Teng struck out one and walked one, throwing 63 pitches as the Astros’ rotation continues to battle through a long list of injuries. Tatsuya Imai’s return this week should help, but Teng is likely to still be used as part of a six-man rotation. His next start lines up at home against the Rangers.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #23
Graham Ashcraft struck out two in a scoreless ninth to secure a 5-0 win for the Reds on Sunday.
It wasn’t a save situation, but Ashcraft continued to pitch well. He lowered his ERA to 1.74 and needed just 12 pitches, throwing nine strikes. Pierce Johnson earned the Reds’ most recent save, but this feels unsettled, and Emilio Pagan (hamstring) will be out for a while.
  • CIN Shortstop #44
Elly De La Cruz went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored as the Reds beat the Astros 5-0 on Sunday.
The stolen base was his ninth of the season, making him one short of becoming the first player with 10 homers and 10 steals in 2026. The 24-year-old shortstop is sporting a career-high barrel rate and is on pace for the best season of his big-league tenure. The Reds next face the Nationals’ struggling pitching staff for a three-game set at Great American Ballpark that opens on Tuesday.
  • HOU 2nd Baseman #27
Jose Altuve went 1-for-4 in the Astros’ 5-0 loss to the Reds on Sunday.
Altuve has managed to score 24 runs this season, but through a little more than a month, he’s having his worst offensive performance since 2020. The primary culprit seems to be a sharp spike in his grounder rate. The Astros will return home for a seven-game week against the Mariners and Rangers.
  • BOS 1st Baseman #40
Initial tests on Willson Contreras’s right hand came back negative.
He’s likely day-to-day after getting hit on the hand by a pitch in the first inning today. The Red Sox have Monday off, so he’ll get at least a one-day break. If he can’t go Tuesday, then Mickey Gasper could play first base.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #63
The Orioles are planning on starting Brandon Young against the Yankees on Monday.
Young has a 4.35 ERA in four starts for the Orioles this season. It’s possible he’ll be sent down after the game Monday, as the Orioles are expected to activate Trevor Rogers during the series versus the Yankees.
  • BAL Right Fielder #12
Dylan Beavers went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI on Sunday, propelling the Orioles to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Athletics.
Beavers led off the third inning with a double and scored the Orioles’ first run on an RBI single off the bat of Gunnar Henderson. He then came through with the biggest hit of the day, a go-ahead RBI single in the sixth inning that proved to be the difference in the contest. On the season, the 24-year-old outfielder is now hitting .243/.331/.369 with two homers and 12 RBI in his 119 plate appearances.
  • DET Right Fielder #30
Tigers placed OF Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left shoulder.
Gage Workman is replacing him on the roster. Carpenter was hurt Saturday while running into the side wall down the right field line on Bobby Witt Jr.'s inside-the-park homer. The Tigers will probably give Colt Keith more time at DH with Carpenter out, which would open up starts for Workman at third. Wenceel Pérez is also in line for some extra at-bats as a right fielder.
