Valdez had just given up back-to-back home runs to Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu and then immediately put a fastball between Story’s numbers. When the umpires conferred and ejected him, Valdez simply nodded once and walked off the mound without any objection. Given that Chris Devenski of the Pirates was just suspended for intentionally throwing at Sal Stewart, we could be looking at a possible suspension for Valdez here as well. The Tigers can ill-afford to lose one of Framber’s starts given how injured the rest of their rotation is. The left-hander now has a 4.57 ERA and is lined up to face the Royals this Sunday if he is eligible to make that start.

The Giants have Thursday off, so perhaps they’ll hold out Lee until then. Jesus Rodriguez or Drew Gilbert could start in right field on Tuesday.

Adames had the ball go off his thumb while committing an error on a Nolan Arenado grounder. If he can’t play Tuesday, then Casey Schmitt figures to start at shortstop.

Imai gave up five hits, walked none and struck out five. He fell to 1-2 with the loss. Imai actually had one of his better starts. He had little trouble with the Twins outside of allowing three runs on two home runs by Josh Bell. Imai walked none and struck out five, which are good signs at least. He has an 8.31 ERA now, though his 4.67 xFIP suggests he really hasn’t been that bad. Imai is lined up to start next week against the Rangers.
