Like fellow left-handed hitters Colson Montgomery and Tristan Peters, Antonacci will take a seat with left-handed Kris Bubic toeing the slab for the Royals. Randal Grichuk will start in his place in left field and bat cleanup for the White Sox on Thursday evening.

Never before has a player hit his first major league homer and been so miserable after the game. Kuroda-Grauer was hurt when he fouled a pitch off himself in the fifth, though he did stay in for another inning. Alika Williams will probably be needed to fill in for him Tuesday.

Thomas is day-to-day. The D-backs are throwing another lefty on Tuesday, so Thomas would be in line to start. However, if he can’t go, Lawrence Butler will probably play right field.

The game should have ended two batters earlier, as Vaughn Grissom crushed a ball off the wall in right against Riley O’Brien with the tying run on second and the winning run on first. Though it bounced at least 40 feet away from Jordan Walker afterwards, pinch-runner Jose Siri was unable to score from first. O’Brien then intentionally walked Josh Lowe to set up the double play, only to throw four straight balls to Adell. The last plunked him on the elbow, though it would have ended the game either way. The struggling Adell, who was hitless in his previous six games, had already had a great night by that point. His 103.6-mph homer was actually his third hardest-hit ball of the game. He has 14 homers in 100 games this year.

Although he was hit fairly hard — nine of the 17 balls in play against him topped 101 mph — Soriano struck out seven in his longest and probably best outing since May 10 against the Blue Jays. Since that game, he’d had a 5.24 ERA and a 54/33 K/BB in 56 2/3 innings over 11 outings. Soriano will likely make his next start Sunday against the Giants. There’s a chance that could be his last with the Angels, though Reid Detmers remains the better bet to be traded.

Jo Adell homered in the third for the only run of Leahy. The right-hander allowed just two other hits, walked none and struck out four. He’s given up a total of two runs over 25 1/3 innings in his last five starts, one of which was halted by rain after three innings. There are obvious concerns about his workload going forward, as this is his first year back in the rotation after three seasons in the pen, but he’s cruising at the moment. He’ll face the Reds this weekend.

O’Brien had seemingly bounced back from his struggles in May and June, but this was a disaster. With one out, he gave up a single and hit a batter before allowing a double/near-home run to Vaughn Grissom that should have ended the game, except pinch-runner Jose Siri somehow failed to score from first. After that came in an intentional walk to Josh Lowe to load the bases, followed by four straight balls to Jo Adell. The last of those get Adell in the elbow, so it was officially a game-ending HBP, rather than a game-ending walk. O’Brien entered tonight having pitched eight consecutive scoreless innings and converted 11 straight save chances, so his gig is safe for now.

Herrera has been struggling the last couple of weeks, but a four-strikeout game from a guy with a 16 percent K rate is pretty unexpected. He’d never had one previously in 301 games as a major leaguer. Herrera is 6-for-40 with no extra-base hits in his last 10 games.

Crawford was scratched before Monday’s game against the Reds, but the Mariners didn’t give a reason at the time. Colt Emerson was inserted into the lineup in his place.

Rodríguez departed after being hit on the back of his leg by a throw while beating out a grounder. He was also feeling some soreness from the impact of hitting first base afterwards. Still, it sounds like there aren’t going to be any lasting problems here.

Suzuki’s home run was his 16th of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Jack Flaherty in the bottom of the third inning. Suzuki extended his hitting streak to nine games, during which he’s 13-for-34 (.382) with three home runs and eight RBI. He’s hitting .273 with an .833 OPS and 50 RBI.
