Wilyer Abreu went 2-for-5 with a double on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

As usual, the Red Sox’s offense was practically nonexistent here. They were shutout and his double was their only extra-base hit. While they’ve lacked consistency as a club this season, Abreu has been there through it all and performed. He’s missed just one game all season and has a .278 batting average and .770 OPS, but with just eight home runs and five stolen bases.

Nationals transferred LHP Mitchell Parker to the 60-day injured list.

It’s merely a procedural move with Parker likely to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery after being diagnosed with a significant UCL sprain earlier this week.

Mookie Betts was scratched from the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Athletics with wrist soreness.

Miguel Rojas takes over at shortstop with Max Muncy moving into the cleanup spot against his former club. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters they made the decision to scratch Betts out of an abundance of caution. It doesn’t sound like a significant concern, but fantasy managers should closely monitor his status heading into Friday’s series opener against the division-rival Padres.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters he expects Will Smith (neck) to remain out through the upcoming All-Star break.

There was optimism that Smith would make it back to Los Angeles at some point in early July, but those odds seemed to get longer in recent weeks while Smith remained shut down from baseball activities. The 31-year-old is working his way back from neck inflammation and the Dodgers have zero incentive to rush him and risk any setbacks. There should be a clearer timeline at some point in the coming weeks. It’ll be former top prospect Dalton Rushing continuing to handle the bulk of the catching duties for the Dodgers.

Brent Rooker will undergo season-ending left knee surgery.

Rooker will undergo a procedure to address cartilage issues after hitting the injured list with a bone bruise in his left knee back in early June. The latest development comes just days after he began a running and hitting progression. The 31-year-old power-hitter finishes with an underwhelming .200/.281/.389 slash line with 10 homers, 29 RBI and two steals in 203 plate appearances over 48 games. His absence is a significant hit to the Athletics’ playoff hopes as it’ll be challenging to replace his presence as a middle-of-the-order run-producing threat.

Teoscar Hernández is out of the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Athletics.

Tommy Edman gets the nod in left field in his place. Hernández has gone 2-for-8 with an RBI in a pair of games since returning from the injured list earlier this week. The 33-year-old veteran slugger will likely need to produce in the next few months to keep his spot with Los Angeles moving forward since they have a couple talented outfield prospects nearing the majors including phenom Josue De Paula and on-base machine Mike Sirota. They also have James Tibbs III tearing the cover off the ball at Triple-A.

Willy Adames (back) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Diamondbacks.

Giants skipper Tony Vitello told reporters earlier this week that Adames was trending in the right direction and it sounds like there’s a chance he’ll be ready for Friday’s series opener against the Rockies at Coors Field. The 30-year-old is sitting out his third consecutive contest due to back spasms. It’ll be Christian Koss filling in at shortstop in his absence.

Giants recalled INF Christian Koss from Triple-A Sacramento.

Koss gets the call to join San Francisco’s injury-depleted infield mix with Matt Chapman finally requiring a trip to the injured list due to a lingering abdominal strain. The 28-year-old has gone 1-for-14 at the plate in the big leagues this season. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy leagues.

Giants placed 3B Matt Chapman on the 10-day injured list with an abdominal strain.

Chapman receives some time off to rest and recover after playing through an abdominal issue since April. The 33-year-old defensive stalwart has hit .235/.324/.368 with seven homers and 42 RBI across 352 plate appearances through 84 games. He figures to be on the move to a contender ahead of next month’s trade deadline.

Pirates recalled RHP Cam Sanders from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Sanders provides Pittsburgh with a fresh bullpen arm heading into Wednesday’s affair against the Phillies. The 29-year-old has allowed six runs over six innings at the highest level this season. He’ll operate in low-leverage spots.

Pirates optioned RHP Brandan Bidois to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Bidois was hit hard by the Phillies in his last outing and holds a lackluster 6.32 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 20/12 K/BB ratio across 15 2/3 innings during his first taste of the big leagues.
