POINT GUARD
Ja Morant – Memphis (at San Antonio) - DK: $9,900 / FD: $9,900 / Yahoo: $44
Morant is cheaper than the highest tier of PGs, but consistently reaches value or exceeds value, especially in good matchups. The Spurs rank sixth in fantasy points to PG, eighth overall, and play at the fifth-highest pace. Morant previously scored over 50 fantasy points against them, and is on an incredible streak where he has over 26 FGA and 30 real points per game in his last three. The Grizzlies are four-point favorites on the road with tonight’s second-highest over/under (229 points).
Also Consider: James Harden, Trae Young, Luka Doncic, Dejounte Murray, Coby White, Gabe Vincent
SHOOTING GUARD
Tyrese Haliburton – Sacramento (at Atlanta) - DK: $7,500 (PG) / FD: $7,700 / Yahoo: $31
This game should also be a good one for DFS, with the highest point total (231.5 points), and although the Hawks are big home favorites, I think Haliburton is a solid play at the position. His numbers are a bit up and down, but he had a recent streak of three games with double-digit assists, and should continue to benefit from the Kings’ shorthandedness in the backcourt, especially if Fox is ruled out again. The matchup is a favorable one, as Atlanta is nearly as bad defensively as Sacramento (27th in defensive rating). The first time these teams played Haliburton put up 41 fantasy points (alongside Fox) with three steals.
Also Consider: Jalen Suggs, Caris LeVert, Darius Garland, Terry Rozier, Ayo Dosunmu, Kevin Huerter
SMALL FORWARD
OG Anunoby – Toronto (at Chicago) - DK: $6,700 / FD: $6,800 / Yahoo: $27
Once the word on Fred VanVleet and Scottie Barnes is out, there may be additional opportunities on the Raptors roster, but for now I’m keying in on Anunoby at a tricky SF position. I also think there’s justification for including Pascal Siakam in lineups tonight, but Anunoby is much more affordable. He’s also been Mr. Consistent, with double-digit scoring throughout the month so far and one steal in nine of his last 10 games. The Bulls offer a modest pace bump, and rank as one of the best DvP matchups for opposing forwards.
Also Consider: Jimmy Butler, RJ Barrett, Bojan Bogdanovic, Khris Middleton
POWER FORWARD
Evan Mobley – Cleveland (vs. Milwaukee) - DK: $8,100 / FD: $6,900 / Yahoo: $31
Mobley is coming off two consecutive double-doubles and the Cavs are one of the teams not on a back-to-back tonight. Jarrett Allen is questionable, but Mobley has been very playable when he’s active so that isn’t a decision-maker. The Bucks are a great defensive team, but they play fast, and if they have a weakness, it has been to opposing power forwards this season (sixth-most fantasy points allowed). Mobley shot poorly the first time these teams met, back in early December, but he and the team have come a long way since then. Vegas is expecting a closer game tonight, which bodes well for both sides in DFS.
Also Consider: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Pascal Siakam, Keldon Johnson, John Collins, Kristaps Porzingis, Wendell Carter Jr.
CENTER
Bismack Biyombo – Phoenix (at Utah) - DK: $5,500 / FD: $6,300 / Yahoo: $18
As Deandre Ayton remains out, and is now joined by JaVale McGee and Jae Crowder, it looks safe enough to trust Biyombo against a Gobert-less Jazz team. Biyombo has three double-doubles in the last four games, including one against Utah on Monday night. The usage should definitely be there for him, and this, even without a couple of stars, should be a fun game. Phoenix offers a faster pace and both teams are near the top of the league in offensive rating. Biyombo is the name to trust, but you could also take a flier on min salary Jalen Smith, who had a really nice stretch earlier in the season but has been riding the bench lately.
Also Consider: Goga Bitadze, Nikola Jokic, Nikola Vucevic, Steven Adams, Hassan Whiteside, Clint Capela
ADDITIONAL NOTES
Jalen Suggs (SG – ORL) is another guard I’m trying to squeeze in along with Haliburton. He took a minute to get back into high gear after his lengthy absence, but his last three games have been fantastic. He has six steals, three blocks, an average of 17 points per game and ample rebounds and assists to pad his stat lines. The matchup here is decent; the Clippers rank near the bottom of the league in rebounding and give up the 15th-most overall fantasy points. Vegas has it as a very close game, which should ensure plenty of minutes for the talented rookie.
Steven Adams (C – MEM) is someone that I feel like I’m the only one that ever uses him, but in great matchups at great salaries, I can’t help it. This game has all the plus factors I’m looking for, plus the Spurs are the fourth-best center matchup. Despite his overall mediocrity this season, Adams put up a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double with three assists and two blocks on New Year’s Eve. Not a terrible Utility slot filler in GPPs.
James Harden (G – BKN) if you want to spend up for one stud guard, make it Harden. He has two triple-doubles in his last three games, both going for over 70 fantasy points and that is his potential when the Nets are home without Kyrie Irving or Kevin Durant. Harden gets a terrific matchup with Denver, who gives up the second-most fantasy points to point guards, and like others I’ve mentioned, this is expected to be a close and pretty high-scoring game to draw upon. I think you can go with a more balanced lineup tonight, but there’s also going to be enough value to comfortably start building around Harden.
