Kraft could start camp on PUP list, return Week 1

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman believes Tucker Kraft (knee) could start training camp on the PUP list, but reports he “should be full go” by Week 1.

Kraft has said that he plans to play in Week 1 with no pitch count after a torn ACL he suffered in Week 9 of last season. Going on the PUP list at the start of camp would not be abnormal or cause for concern, the question would simply be how long he stays on it. Kraft is going to be one of the most fantasy-interesting injuries to track over the course of training camp. Stay tuned.

Kraft did note that he will likely begin training camp on the PUP list. He specifically mentioned that he could use that time to get his conditioning ready ahead of Week 1. Kraft is still recovering from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 9 of last year, but all signs point to him being on or ahead of schedule. On a points-per-game basis, he exited 2025 as the TE4. He may not open the year at quite that level, but fantasy managers should bank on him being an every-week starter sooner rather than later.

Kraft tore his ACL in Week 9 of the 2025 season. Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said after the draft that he expects Kraft back “early in the season.” Kraft previously told reporters he expects to start training camp on the PUP list, though the Packers could take him off whenever he is ready to practice. Kraft added that he expects to be ready by Week 1. As long as he is practicing in full by the end of camp, that should be an attainable goal. Kraft was on pace for over 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns last year. Even if he takes a few weeks to get up to speed, he should be a top-half TE1 early in the season.

“They’re doing great,” Gutekunst said on an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “Tuck’s been in here every day, and he’s obviously a little bit ahead of schedule, just because his injury happened earlier than Micah’s did. But Micah’s such a - he’s a little bit of a freak. So I think some of that has taken over, and he’s doing really well, as well.” He continued, “So, certainly expect both of those guys back early in the season. And they’ll be a big part of what we’re doing moving forward.” Both players are attempting to return from torn ACLs, with Kraft’s injury occurring in November and Parsons’ occurring in December of last season. It certainly sounds like both players could avoid the Physically Unable to Perform list this summer, which would give each player a good chance to make good on their general manager’s words and return early in the 2026 regular season.

“By the time Week 1 rolls around, I’ll be 10 months post-surgery and hopefully bulletproofed by then,” Kraft told reporters. Green Bay’s TE1 had seemed to be becoming their main weapon as the middle of the season came around before his Week 9 ACL tear. The Packers passcatchers will remain a headache for fantasy managers to figure out if Matt LaFleur remains head coach, but at least Kraft will offer a TE1 floor even if the weekly target volume fluctuates.

The worst was confirmed on Monday, as Kraft’s season now comes to an end. The third-year tight end will now land on IR with his injury. Kraft was on pace for the best season of his career, and already had two 100-yard games on his resume through the first nine weeks of the season. Kraft was on a 17-game pace for his first 1,000-yard season and will now set his sights toward another high-end season in 2026. Backup tight end Luke Musgrave is now expected to step up in Kraft’s absence, and has caught just nine passes for 88 yards this season on 10 targets. He won’t replicate the production we saw from Kraft, but Musgrave could prove to be sneaky waiver wire add in fantasy for managers still looking for a dependable option.
  • GB Tight End #85
Packers coach Matt LaFleur said after the game that Kraft’s knee injury “does not look good.” We fully expect the MRI to confirm a season-ending injury for the young tight end. It’s a devastating blow for the Packers, who had been relying on Kraft as their de facto WR1 this year. Kraft easily led the team with 30 catches for 469 yards and six scores heading into Week 9. Luke Musgrave will take his place in the lineup, though he is unlikely to replace Kraft’s production.
  • GB Tight End #85
Kraft slammed his knee into the back of a Green Bay linemen on a running play and immediately crumpled to the ground. He stayed on the field for a while before limping off the field with the help of trainers. Kraft rode the cart to the locker room after a brief stay in the medical tent. While the team is listing him as questionable, it would be a surprise to see Kraft back on the field today.
  • GB Tight End #85
Kraft set career highs in receptions (seven) and yards (143) while tying a career high with two scores, also gaining over 100 yards after the catch on National Tight Ends Day. He made two spectacular catches over defenders, the first of which went for his game-long 59-yard reception on the team’s first possession of the third quarter, kickstarting a ferocious second half performance to overcome a nine-point deficit at the break. Kraft continues to perform in the midst of a true breakout season, something that could continue against the Cover-3-heavy Panthers in Week 9.
  • GB Tight End #85
Kraft led the Packers in targets, tallying 10 on the day and catching half of them. He was heavily used in the second half as the Packers completed a comeback victory, catching a seven-yard score from Jordan Love to open the fourth quarter. Kraft nearly broke free for what could have been a red zone score later in the fourth quarter, but let an outlet pass slip through his fingers. Love looks for him often as a yards-after-catch maestro over the middle of the field and in the flats. Kraft is firmly in the fantasy TE1 range for Week 8 against the Steelers.
  • GB Tight End #85
The Packers’ star tight end remained efficient in this one, though his day could have been a lot bigger. Early on, Kraft faced tight coverage from Bengals CB Dax Hill in the end zone and let a contested target slap his hands before falling to the ground. A defensive holding penalty on CB Cam Taylor-Britt erased the target from the box score and set up Josh Jacobs for a rushing touchdown up the middle. Kraft remains a high-end TE1 against the Cardinals next week.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini believes Jets WR Adonai Mitchell “solidified himself as the No. 2 receiver” in spring workouts.

Per Cimini, Jets coaches thought Mitchell would take a leap this offseason, but he managed to exceed their expectations. Mitchell has reportedly “displayed a firm grasp of the new system,” while showing off his vertical speed and building chemistry with QB Geno Smith. Mental gaffes have been Mitchell’s biggest developmental issue. If he really has figured out that aspect of the game, Mitchell should return usable, if volatile FLEX numbers this season.

The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr. believes Bengals RB Chase Brown can benefit from the team’s potential playcalling changes in 2026.

Dehner reports that the Bengals have rigorously practiced lining up under center in spring practices. He believes they will remain a shotgun-first team, but thinks they could improve on their 31st under-center ranking by more than 10 spots. Among the top-40 qualifiers from 2024-25, Brown averages 5.1 yards per carry (fourth) and a 12.3 percent explosive run play rate (third) on runs when QB Joe Burrow lines up under center. From shotgun formation, Brown averages 4.5 (24th) and 7.3 percent (22nd), respectively. Even a minimal increase in under-center snaps would benefit Brown. The Bengals believe TE Erick All’s (knee) return gives them the needed flexibility to do so. He is capable of motioning into the backfield as a fullback, and “setting the edge with vicious crack blocks and overall serving as a hammer in front of Brown in the run game.” Brown finished as the RB7 last year and is being drafted as the consensus RB10 in best ball. Beating that ADP seems plausible.

The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr. reports that “for now,” Bengals QB Joe Burrow has bought into the idea of running more plays from under center and increasing play-action usage.

The Bengals have been unable to generate explosive pass plays as frequently as the NFL’s eight most explosive passing offenses do. Six of those teams made the playoffs last year and ranked 13th or better in under-center rate and under-center play-action rate. The Bengals ranked 31st and 30th in those to categories, respectively, and 22nd in explosive pass play rate last year. Over the past three seasons, the Bengals have generated just one explosive pass play after running play action from under center. Burrow, Bengals coach Zac Taylor and OC Dan Pitcher know that needs to change, but the trio has been hesitant to decrease their shotgun rate due to Burrow’s elite processing when allowed to survey the field. That said, Dehner writes that Burrow worked on under-center play-action dropbacks “no matter the day during the Bengals’ offseason program.” Dehner believes the shotgun passing game “will always be their identity,” but raising their under-center ranking to roughly 20th in the league is doable and will generate more fantasy-friendly explosive pass plays along the way.

The Denver Post’s Luca Evans reports that Broncos WR Marvin Mims can earn more than $10 million per year as a free agent next offseason.

Evans compares Mims to Seahawks WR Rashid Shaheed, who recently signed a three-year deal averaging more than $17 million per year. Shaheed is a more accomplished wide receiver, but both players are decorated special teams returners. Per Evans, one agent who works with several NFL wide receivers believes Mims could earn $11 to $13 million annually as things currently stand. Should he contribute more offensively, those numbers could go up. Earlier this week, Mims publicly acknowledged that this may be his last year in Denver. Evans writes that Broncos coach Sean Payton wants to give Mims more offensive opportunities, but the offensive staff “has not always trusted Mims to run a full route tree.” If Payton really wanted to further incorporate Mims into the offense, we can’t understand why that hasn’t already happened, though. Mims should only be viewed as a late-round dart throw in best ball right now.

Brandon Aiyuk said he will not return to California if there is indeed a warrant out for his arrest.

In a social media post, evidently streamed from a residence in Washington, D.C., Aiyuk asks his audience whether a warrant for his arrest has actually been issued. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office issued a warrant for his arrest on a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speeding on June 3rd. We are surprised to learn that he is not fully aware of this. This situation presents a problem for him. Aiyuk has been placed on the reserve/left squad list, which means the 49ers do not have to pay him unless he applies for, and is granted, reinstatement. After that, he must return to the team facility. Once he does so, the 49ers must make a decision as to whether they pay him or release him. As long as he remains away from the team, the 49ers’ front office is not obligated to make a decision. If Aiyuk is set on avoiding California due to the arrest warrant, we see no reason to believe that this situation will be resolved anytime soon.

Ravens CB Nate Wiggins said he is now at full strength after undergoing an undisclosed offseason surgery.

Last season, Wiggins was listed with groin and elbow injuries. As a 2024 rookie, he appeared on the injury report with a neck/concussion designation and later suffered a shoulder injury. In his recent interview with The Journey Media, Wiggins said he was also working through a groin injury when he participated in the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, and claims he has played at “60-70 percent” health ever since high school. Wiggins did not share details on his offseason surgery, but the multiple groin injuries obviously stand out in his injury history. Wiggins hopes to earn Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors en route to a Super Bowl victory this season.

The CFL announced it will not allow teams to sign former Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby.

The league released a statement saying, “Upholding the integrity of the league and ensuring fair competition are paramount to the CFL. The allegations involving Brendan Sorsby are serious and concerning. At this time, the CFL will not register a contract for him, and no team will be permitted to add him to its negotiations list.” It’s yet another closed door for Sorsby, who learned earlier this week that the NFL was declining to hold a supplemental draft, which would have given teams a chance to select him as he makes his late departure from college to the NFL. While it’s still possible Sorsby sues the league in hopes of having that decision overturned, it seems increasingly likely that he won’t have many suitors at any level for the 2026 football season, meaning he will most likely be setting his sights on prepping for the 2027 NFL Draft.

The NFL announced the dates for the 2027 NFL Draft, which will be held in Washington, D.C.

The league announced in May that Washington, D.C., would be the host site for next year’s draft. Now, the league has announced that the three-day event will kick off on Thursday, April 29th, and conclude on Saturday, May 1st, with the National Mall serving as the primary backdrop for the weekend. This will be the first draft the Nation’s Capital has hosted since 1941 when it was hosted at the Willard Hotel.

The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo says Germie Bernard “probably will carve out his niche as a big slot” receiver this season.

The rookie second-rounder joins an offense that includes established veterans on the outside in D.K. Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr., so a slot role may be his best path to early playing time. DeFabo is already on record as saying that he believes Bernard “has a good shot” at early playing time this season, a point he reiterated in his latest article. It’s hard to imagine Bernard having much fantasy upside this season given the veteran presence in the receiver room, but for those holding Bernard in dynasty leagues, it sounds like the rookie has gotten off to a good start ahead of his first NFL training camp, which is set to kick off next month.

Speaking on the New Heights podcast, Zach Ertz said “I’m doing everything I can” to get back on the field this season.

Ertz suffered a torn ACL in Week 14 of last season. Now nearly six months removed from his surgery, the 35-year-old free agent is continuing to rehab in hopes of returning for at least one more season. In his second season with the Commanders, Ertz totaled 50 receptions for 504 yards and four touchdowns and posted a 116-1,158-11 line in his two seasons with the team. While a return to Washington seems unlikely at this point, when healthy, Ertz should have a little bit of a market for teams in need of help at the position. Even if he does land somewhere, it’s hard to imagine Ertz having any real fantasy upside beyond that of a matchup based streaming option.
