Panthers TE Mitchell Evans (ankle) was carted off the field in practice Tuesday.

Head coach Dave Canales spoke to media following the morning session specified the nature of the injury, calling it an ankle issue. The injury occurred in an 11-on-11 rep early in the day. The second-year tight end is behind both Tommy Tremble and Ja’Tavion Sanders on the depth chart but could work his way into more snaps with a strong showing this summer. This injury does not help on that front.

Evans was relegated to the background on the rare occasions when Ja’Tavion Sanders was healthy, finishing his rookie season with a 19/171/2 receiving line. He enters 2026 third on the Carolina tight end depth chart, but showed some flashes and wouldn’t be a bad TE2 flier if he had a non-trivial role in this offense.

Sanders was targeted just twice, but one of those targets was a six-yard touchdown catch. The other one was an attempted hurdle for a three-yard gain in the first half. Rookie Mitchell Evans caught three passes for 23 yards as well. The tight end spot in Carolina is a mix of multiple players. Sanders ran 20 routes and saw 31 snaps, while Tommy Tremble saw 23 snaps and Evans saw 16 snaps. Sanders is the pass-catching tight end while Evans is more of the blocker, but neither should be on fantasy radars for Week 17.

That’s back-to-back games with a touchdown for the rookie tight end. Ja’Tavion Sanders was out with an ankle injury, so Evans split reps with Tommy Tremble this week. Neither player caught more than one pass. Evans’ game-winning score should earn him more work going forward, but fantasy managers shouldn’t count on a fantasy-relevant role in Week 6.
  • CAR Wide Receiver
The Panthers officially bring their X-wide receiver into the fold via a $27.93 million deal. McMillan should immediately compete for the team lead in targets and should produce fantasy-friendly results in year one. The Panthers also signed third-round OLB Princely Umanmielen, fourth-round S Lathan Ransom, fifth-round DT Cam Jackson, fifth-round TE Mitchell Evans and sixth-round WR Jimmy Horn Jr.. Dynasty managers should take note of Horn, who could eventually work his way into three-wide receiver sets.
  • CAR Tight End
Evans (6’5/258) spent four seasons at Notre Dame, totalling over 400 receiving yards in each of his last two. Injuries hampered his production as he suffered a broken foot as a sophomore and a partially torn ACL as a junior. Testing with a 1.55 10-yard split, No. 1 among tight ends at the NFL Combine, Evans is a good athlete who can work the middle of the field. His quickness to get open in the short area makes him a strong pass-catcher. As a blocker, he has the size and strength to be impactful in-line. Evans does not add much after the catch but is versatile enough to work out of both the slot and in-line positions. If he can stay healthy, Evans has the tools to be a secondary tight end option in the NFL.

Evans (6'5"/250) had surgery on his foot back on July 14th after injuring it during offseason training. The sophomore finished last season with two receptions for 21 yards and will play behind Michael Mayer when he returns.

Marcus Harris (ankle) is questionable to return Week 8 against the Bengals.

Harris suffered an ankle injury and limped off the field with trainers in the first half of the Titans’ Week 8 game against the Bengals. He spent time in the blue tent and was subsequently carted to the locker room. Harris is questionable to return.

Tyler Huntley (toe) questionable to return in Week 8 against the Bills.

Huntley suffered a toe injury on a sack/fumble in the second quarter and was replaced by emergency QB3 Joe Fagnano. Huntley is eligible to return to the game if the team clears him to do so, despite some initial confusion that he would be unable to return after the Ravens were forced to put in their emergency QB.

Jaguars DT DaVon Hamilton suffered a knee injury in Jacksonville’s Week 8 game against the Colts and will not return.

Hamilton got rolled up in ugly fashion in the second quarter and required the assistance of a cart. He was then quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game. That, it goes without saying, is never a good sign. It’s a huge loss for the Jags’ stout defense up front, as seventh-year pro Hamilton has been arguably having his best season.

Cade Mays (ankle) is questionable to return in Week 8 against the Vikings.

Mays went down with the injury in the second quarter. His absence will make it even tougher for the Detroit offense to navigate the Vikings’ complex blitzing schemes. Mays has dealt with injuries for much of the past month.

Jeremiyah Love (ankle) left Arizona’s Week 8 game against the Cowboys and is questionable to return.

His right ankle was rolled up on at the end of a running play and Love immediately slammed his helmet after walking off. He later went to the locker room with trainers and then was officially dubbed questionable. Not great. Love finished with nine carries for 23 yards, including a fourth-and-1 go at the goalline that he didn’t convert. We’ll see what reports say after the game but given Love has already missed time with ankle injuries this year, it’s hard to be optimistic about his status for next week.

Jaguars S Eric Murray suffered an elbow injury in Jacksonville’s Week 8 game against the Colts and will not return.

Veteran Murray went down early and was ruled out in the first half. It leaves the Jags’ safety depth perilously low.

Lamar Jackson (thumb) will not return in Week 8’s game against the Bills.

Jackson’s day officially ends after one play. The two-time MVP injured the thumb on his throwing hand on his first and only dropback of the day and immediately went to the locker room. The urgency with which Jackson was ushered from the field, coupled with how quickly he was ruled out, suggests this could be a serious enough injury that will result in another multi-game absence for Jackson. Tyler Huntley will be under center for the remainder of Week 8’s game against the Bills.

Jake Ferguson (ankle) left Dallas’ Week 8 game against the Cardinals and is questionable to return.

He left in the first quarter. Hopefully his trendlines discouraged you from starting him, if not, we’re afraid it might be a zero for you. He was spotted on the sideline walking off.

Lamar Jackson (thumb) is questionable to return in Week 8 against the Bills.

Shortly after he exited the field the team announced that Jackson was questionable to return after suffering a thumb injury on his throwing hand. Tyler Huntley immediately took over for Jackson, as the Ravens’ offense went three-and-out on their first drive of the game.
