Cowboys explore CBs, Jackson has multiple suitors

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the Cowboys have explored free agent cornerback options, and CB Adoree’ Jackson is a “name to watch.”

Fowler reminds us that Cowboys DC Christian was the Eagles’ passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach from 2024-25, and Jackson spent last year playing for him in Philadelphia. A reunion could make sense, and Jackson worked out for the Cowboys back in May. Jackson notched six pass breakups and one interception last year, and reportedly has interest from a few teams. Stay tuned.

Tee Higgins (adductor/neck) did not practice Wednesday.

Head coach Zac Taylor told reporters before practice that Higgins would be listed as limited. Not only did he not practice, but the team listed him with a neck injury on top of his adductor issue. He went down with the adductor injury late in Cincy’s Week 4 loss to the Jags. It’s unclear when the neck issue cropped up. With multiple injuries holding him out of practice, Higgins looks unlikely to play in Week 5. With Ja’Marr Chase potentially out as well, Dohnte Meyers could be Joe Burrow No. 1 receiver this week. He should be added in all fantasy formats.

Malik Nabers (knee) did not practice on Wednesday.

Earlier today, The Athletic’s Dan Duggan reported that Nabers sat in the rehab section, speaking with the team’s head trainer during individual drills before seemingly going through some sort of rehab routine. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan then reported that Nabers said he was feeling “more sore than usual,” and “did as much as he could at practice.” When asked whether this could affect his ability to play in Week 5 against the Commanders, Nabers said, “we’ll see,” adding that it usually gets better as the week progresses. We tentatively expect Nabers to play, though this is worth monitoring closely.

Tanor Bortolini (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.

Sedrick Van Pran-Granger would take Bortolini’s starting spot at center if the latter is unable to suit up on Sunday. With Daniel Jones already struggling to start the year, a banged-up offensive line is not what he needs to get things going in the right direction. Pran-Granger has two career starts since entering the league in 2024.

Alvin Kamara (back) was not seen practicing on Wednesday.

Kamara briefly left the Saints’ Week 4 game against the Falcons to deal with a knee injury. Today, he is sidelined by a back injury. It’s perhaps unsurprising for a 31-year-old player who has clearly lost a step at this point in his career. He is backed up by Kendre Miller and CJ Donaldson. Either player can be stashed in 12-team formats.

Bears LG Joe Thuney (pectoral) did not practice on Wednesday.

Bears RG Jonah Jackson (ankle) and RT Darnell Wright (ankle) also sat out. Starting LT Braxton Jones (knee) is currently on injured reserve. This unit is worth watching this week.

DeMeco Ryans said he will take over play-calling duties from defensive coordinator Matt Burke.

Ryans told reporters he wants to help streamline the communication from the sidelines to the defense. The Texans are built to be a defense-first title contender. They have allowed the seventh-most points this year and are still searching for their first win. The defense was no better when looking at EPA per play allowed, so their poor performance can’t be written off as a series of flukes. Something had to change. Ryans will now bear more responsibility on his side of the ball. If things don’t turn around in a hurry, Ryans’ job will almost certainly come into question.

Kaelon Black (illness) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

This should be a non-issue for Black by the time Sunday comes around. Black cut into Christian McCaffrey’s role again last week with six carries, though he only turned that into 13 yards. He doesn’t have much standalone fantasy value but remains one of the better contingency options headed into Week 5.

D’Andre Swift (hip/knee) did not practice on Wednesday.

Swift nursed this knee injury last week, but was active on game day, as usual. Bears RB2 Kyle Monangai took on 30 carries, functioning as the team’s offensive centerpiece after Swift lost a fumble in the second half. Perhaps Swift’s hip injury, which he apparently picked up in-game, contributed to Monangai’s increased involvement. Monangai injured his right thumb and suffered a toe injury, though he is expected to play in Week 5 against the Packers. Swift’s participation level is worth watching closely this week.

Kyle Monangai (thumb/toe) did not practice on Wednesday.

Bears coach Ben Johnson continues to indicate the Monangai will be good to go for Week 5, but it is worth monitoring the Bears’ practice reports. D’Andre Swift (knee/hip) was also sidelined to begin the week. If Swift is unable to play, Monangai would take on a sizable workload in Week 5 against the Packers.

Mike Evans (ribs) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Evans played through his rib injury last week and was surprisingly productive, posting five catches for 76 yards. He led the 49ers in targets and yards. A limited session today is a good sign that the rib injury didn’t get any worse on Sunday. He should be good to go as a fantasy WR2 for his Week 5 matchup with the Seahawks.
