    Dolphins waived RB Jarquez Hunter.

It’s a bit surprising after Hunter was acquired in a 1-for-1 swap for Tutu Atwell three days ago, but the Dolphins are undoubtedly hoping he will clear waivers and revert to the practice squad. The move was also a Miami money-saver, so it was not all for naught. Also waived/released by the Dolphins are OT Gottlieb Ayedze, CB Miles Battle, S Major Burns, TE Jeremiah Franklin, QB Mark Gronowski, WR Donaven McCulley, EDGE Rodney McGraw, CB Jai’Onte’ McMillan, QB Cam Miller, DL Fatorma Mulbah, LB Cam Riley, RB Carlos Washington Jr., DL Matthew Butler, LB Tyrel Dodson, EDGE Cameron Goode, OT Charlie Heck, S Lonnie Johnson Jr., WR Terrace Marshall Jr., EDGE David Ojabo, WR Jalen Reagor and CB Marco Wilson.

Hunter was notably acquired for Tutu Atwell in the preseason but was released during final cuts. The Dolphins now bring him back as depth in the running back room. Also notably on the practice squad is former first-round defensive lineman Mazi Smith. The Dolphins rounded out the practice squad with RB Carlos Washington, WR Jalen Reagor, WR Will Sheppard, CB Ethan Bonner, DE Max Llewellyn, TE Tre Watson, OT Gottlieb Ayedze, DL Jordan Miller, EDGE Clelin Ferrell, EDGE Amari Gainer, EDGE Rodney McGraw, LB Liam Anderson, CB Jaylin Simpson, and S Major Burns.

Back with his old team, Atwell is highly unlikely to warrant FLEX treatment this season, but he provides the Rams with a speed element that the offense was somewhat lacking. The move also indicates that TE Terrance Ferguson will not be asked to stretch the field as much as he did last year, freeing him up for a potential breakout campaign. Last week, The Athletic’s Nate Atkins reported that Hunter has had a good training camp, showing “many of the rushing skills that had the Rams enamored enough to trade up and draft him in the fourth round last year.” He will likely compete for the No. 2 running back job in Miami.

In other words, Hunter is simply waiting on Blake Corum or Kyren Williams to actually miss time. When neither of them did, he managed only five active games and zero offensive snaps. It’s early to cut bait with Hunter in dynasty leagues, but he certainly isn’t giving off any “must keep” vibes at this point.
  • LA Running Back #22
Corum is firmly on the wrong side of questionable at this point and the Rams have already secured a playoff spot. Starting RB Kyren Williams (ankle) is nursing an ankle injury. If both players are declared inactive, rookie RB Jarquez Hunter could get the start.
  • LA Running Back #23
Williams’ backup, RB Blake Corum (ankle), has not yet practiced this week and the Rams are already headed to the playoffs. Rams rookie RB Jarquez Hunter could see live action this week against the Cardinals, if the coaching staff opts to preserve Williams’ health for the postseason.
  • LA Wide Receiver #17
Adams has been rehabbing this hamstring injury for weeks. He played through it without issue in Week 14 but suffered a re-injury in Week 15. Tonight’s absence was expected. It gives rookie WR Konata Mumpfield a chance to establish himself as a contributor, though expectations must be held in check. He should not be started in re-draft formats. The Rams also declared CB Ahkello Witherspoon, QB Stetson Bennett IV, RB Jarquez Hunter, OL Beaux Limmer and OLB Nick Hampton inactive in Week 16 against the Seahawks.
  • LA Wide Receiver #12
Nacua injured his ankle while attempting to secure an end zone target in Week 6. He sat out the Rams’ Week 7 game against the Jaguars, but fortunately for the Rams, they were on bye in Week 8, allowing him to miss just one game in two weeks. He should be started as a high-end WR1 against the Saints. The Rams declared QB Stetson Bennett IV, RB Jarquez Hunter, CB Darious Williams, OL Beaux Limmer, OL David Quessenberry and DE Desjuan Johnson inactive for Week 9 against the Saints.
  • LA Running Back #27
Nacua will get a Week 8 bye to rest up before eying a Week 9 return against the Saints. Hunter is back to being a healthy scratch after getting some work on special teams over the past month. He hasn’t earned a snap on offense this year.
  • LA Running Back #27
They elevated Cody Schrader from the practice squad to play over Hunter, though neither should have much a role behind Kyren Williams and Blake Corum. Non-dynasty leagues don’t need to hold Hunter at this point. Also inactive for the Rams are: QB Stetson Bennett (third quarterback), DL Ty Hamilton, OL Justin Dedich, OL David Quessenberry, and DL Desjuan Johnson.
  • LA Running Back #32
It’s an interesting development considering we rarely see Sean McVay teams hold four active backs on game day, a potential hint that the team could be primed to make rookie Jarquez Hunter a healthy inactive for the team’s Week 1 contest against the Texans. Schrader enters his second year in the league and was active on two occasions late last season.

ESPN’s Tim McManus reports that Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has bought into new OC Sean Mannion’s scheme “and is fighting hard through the learning curve.”

McManus adds that “the feedback internally has been positive” regarding Hurts’ development. Mannion’s West Coast-style system is a “heavy under-center operation” that will increase the team’s play-action rate, decrease its shotgun usage and require the quarterback and his pass catchers to be on time throughout the play. Hurts has thrown more interceptions than beat reporters are “accustomed to seeing” in training camp, but McManus believes “some” of them can be chalked up to the learning curve that comes with a new system, particularly one featuring passes thrown over the middle. McManus adds that the offensive line depth’s emergence has been the biggest under-the-radar development this season, boding positively for Hurts’ performance in both the short- and long-term.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that free agent OG Shaq Mason “will not be disciplined by the NFL and the investigation into his legal matters from 2025 has been closed.”

Per Garafolo, Mason is free to sign with and play for a team immediately. “All charges against Mason from an August 2025 arrest were dropped in April.” The arrest occurred five months after Mason had been released by the Texans in March 2025, and he remained unsigned throughout the 2025 season.

Free agent TE Thomas Odukoya worked out for the Chiefs on Friday.

Odukoya is an international player from the Netherlands. He was most recently on the Patriots roster and spent 2024 with the Titans, playing just one regular season snap. If the Chiefs sign him, expect him to join the practice squad.

Rams coach Sean McVay said every player on the roster will travel to Australia for Week 1 against the 49ers.

Regarding recently unretired DT Aaron Donald’s potential participation, McVay said that “if he feels good enough to go, great. If not, I’ve got a lot of confidence in the other guys.” The Rams have a two-game roster exemption for Donald, so they can take their time with him if they would like to. Regardless, the fact that he is traveling with the team suggests he has a real chance to play next week.

Packers RB Josh Jacobs’ first court hearing has been moved up from November 17th to September 10th.

The NFL placed Jacobs on the Commissioner Exempt List on August 30th, which prevents him from practicing with the team and playing in NFL games. The NFL acts independently and can make its own decision as to whether Jacobs’ behavior warrants a suspension. That said, rulings or evidence presented in court could impact the league’s decision-making. This could be consequential. Stay tuned.

Texans agreed to terms with WR Tank Dell on a one-year, $1.7 million contract restructure.

The deal includes $1 million in guarantees while saving the franchise almost $2 million against the cap. Dell is reportedly nearing a return from the devastating knee injury suffered in Week 16 of the 2024 season but will begin 2026 on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he will miss the first four games of the regular season. The contract restructure hints at a potential “prove it” year for Dell, giving the team options following 2026 pending health.

Bears agreed to terms with G Joe Thuney, DE Dayo Odeyingbo, and LB TJ Edwards on restructured contracts.

The moves create a solid $17 million in savings against the cap. The team found themselves right up against the salary cap before the restructures, now entering the regular season with about $22 million in space to maneuver.

Cowboys restructured TE Jake Ferguson’s contract.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, the Cowboys now have $33.2 million in salary cap space this year. They also reworked DT Kenny Clark and CB DaRon Bland’s deals. Ferguson’s $7.25 million base salary was turned into a signing bonus. For fantasy purposes, this does not alter Ferguson’s standing. The front office could have a personnel move in mind, though. Stay tuned.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Bears RB D’Andre Swift left practice early on Thursday due to “a cramp.”

Well, this is a pleasant update. Swift was seen leaving practice earlier today, “apparently holding at his midsection or core area.” After a brief scare, everything appears to be fine for the Bears’ starting running back. Swift enters 2026 as a safe RB2, playing in an expectedly efficient and explosive offense. Backfield mate, RB Kyle Monangai (knee), is currently rehabbing an injury, but last we heard, he has a chance to play in Week 1 against the Panthers. Swift could vault into a top-12 positional ranking if Monangai is unable to play.

The Athletic’s Dan Wiederer reports that Bears WR Rome Odunze (leg) “should be all good after leaving today’s practice.”

Let it be known that these are “preliminary indications” from Wiederer, but Bears fans and fantasy managers alike can breathe a sigh of relief. The team will now go on break over the weekend, and coach Ben Johnson will address the media sometime next week. The first injury report comes out on Wednesday, so we should have an update by then, at the latest. It should be noted that Odunze injured his left foot last season. Today’s injury is to his right leg, so the two issues are unrelated. This is not a re-injury. For now, there is reason for cautious optimism regarding Odunze’s health.
