    Saints waived RB Devin Neal.

The Saints placed Neal on injured reserve with a hamstring injury over the weekend, but did not designate him as a candidate to return. He received an injury settlement, and could potentially return to the Saints if he passes through waivers unclaimed.
Shanahan ‘in his bag’ to keep 49ers undefeated
Mike Florio and Chris Simms praise Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers’ ability to never fold while working through a plethora of injuries, but question Denver’s “spuddering” offense.

The 2025 sixth-rounder was waived from injured reserve with a settlement at last cuts. Still just 23, Neal has a non-zero shot of resurfacing for a real role here.
  • NO Running Back #24
Neal has hit I.R. without a return designation, so his sophomore season is over. Of course, he could later be released with an injury settlement. The 2025 sixth-rounder managed 74 touches for the Saints’ undermanned 2025 running back group, though he was not impressive in the process. He is still only 23 years old, so he could land on someone else’s practice squad if/when the Saints cut him loose.

The Saints’ backup running back statuses continue to change. Veteran No. 2 RB Alvin Kamara (knee) is expected to be sidelined for at least one month, and RB Audric Estime is now sidelined with an undisclosed injury. Miller and RB Devin Neal (hamstring) both returned this week, though. Beat reporter Jeff Nowak notes that Miller, Neal and RB Ty Chandler were all allowed to rotate in for first-team reps today, as coach Kellen Moore presumably seeks out a viable primary backup for starting RB Travis Etienne. Per Nowak, Miller “looks sharp despite the time missed.” This is worth tracking for short-term bench stash purposes.

As of Thursday, Neal was taking advantage of RB Kendre Miller’s back injury by playing well at practice. Miller is still sidelined, but now Neal is too. The two backs, along with RBs Audric Estime, Ty Chandler and CJ Donaldson, are all competing for the RB3 job. The fact that Neal is working with the training staff out in the open is a good sign, but this is worth keeping an eye on because a hamstring injury ended his rookie season prematurely.
  • NO Running Back #5
The good news is that Miller was not listed with a knee injury after suffering a season-ending ACL tear in Week 7 last year. The bad news is that he evidently has a new injury, and the Saints have a fairly deep running back room right now. RBs Devin Neal, Audric Estime, Ty Chandler and CJ Donaldson are all vying for roster spots. Per Underhill, Neal is taking advantage of the extra reps. He could have the inside track to the RB3 role right now.
  • NO Running Back #24
If the Saints cut bait on Alvin Kamara, Neal would probably be in the battle for the RB2 spot as things currently stand on the roster. This seems minor enough that we probably wouldn’t be concerned about it, but Neal was dinged up towards the end of last year and it’s worth keeping an eye on.

Triplett and his colleague, Nick Underhill, joked about how RB Kendre Miller (knee) will likely once again dazzle at organized team activities, before things fizzle for him. It’s a brutal take on the 23-year-old Miller, who has dealt with ankle, hamstring and knee injuries, plus one concussion, in his short career. Miller is currently rehabbing a torn ACL suffered in October 2025, but it sounds like he is expected to participate next week. If Kamara is released, Miller should at least get a chance to compete for the No. 2 role. Triplett believes the team has one A-back in RB Travis Etienne, and two B-backs in Miller and, presumably, RB Devin Neal.

Bummer. His season is over. Neal was playing well in RB Alvin Kamara’s (ankle/knee) stead. Neal can be expected to contribute next year, though he may not have done enough to convince the coaching staff that he deserves to be the 2026 starter. The 22-year-old rookie rushed 57 times for 206 yards and two touchdowns, and caught 17-of-19 targets for 104 yards in his first season with the Saints.
  • NO Running Back #41
Saints rookie RB Devin Neal (hamstring) has been starting in Kamara’s stead, but Neal has already been ruled out this week. That leaves RB Evan Hull and RB Audric Estime to potentially compete for the starting role. Estime notably outplayed Hull last week. If Kamara can return, expect him to handle a sizable workload. The Saints face the lowly Jets this week.
  • NO Running Back #24
Neal exited after scoring a four-yard touchdown against the Panthers last week. It is an unfortunate development for the rookie running back. Saints RB Alvin Kamara (knee/ankle) was not present during the portion of practice open to media, leaving the Saints with RB Evan Hull and RB Audric Estime. Saints head coach Kellen Moore notably got Estime involved in space on three combined screen passes and checkdowns. Although he is on the practice squad, he is worth stashing. He outplayed Hull last week.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus said he “would anticipate Tyreek Hill potentially signing with a team over the next few days.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Rosenhaus will begin negotiating a deal for Hill with multiple teams. Among these teams is the Chiefs, who lost both Rashee Rice (hamstring) and Tyquan Thornton (ankle) in Week 4’s win over the Raiders. It was reported on Sunday night that the Chiefs have been in contact with Hill about a potential return. Now, it’s safe to say the Chiefs have a real need at the position that Hill could fill should the two reunite. It’s hard to know how soon Hill can contribute on the field, as he’s still working his way back from a brutal knee injury he suffered last season, but he’s posted videos of himself working out to his social media accounts to show he’s close to being ready to go. While other teams could emerge as suitors for Hill, the Chiefs feel like the most obvious landing spot right now.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports 49ers FB Kyle Juszczyk is believed to have suffered a sprained knee in Week 4’s win over the Broncos.

This would be very good news for Juszczyk, as the injury appeared far worse in real time. According to Rap, the team believes Juszczyk’s ACL is believed to be intact, but he will undergo an MRI to confirm. The veteran fullback is still likely looking at a multi-week absence, which could impact Christian McCaffrey’s effectiveness in the running game, but it sounds like he avoided the worst here.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Patrick Surtain’s ankle injury is not believed to be season-ending.

According to Rapoport, there are no longer any concerns that this is an Achilles injury for Surtain, who left Week 4’s game against the 49ers with a non-contact injury. Surtain could be looking at a multi-week absence and will undergo an MRI soon to confirm the severity of his injury, but it sounds like he avoided anything too serious. In addition to Surtain, the Broncos are also evaluating the status of CB Riley Moss, who is dealing with a rib injury.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) is “weeks away from return.”

The Saints’ offense has managed just fine without Tyson, but it doesn’t sound like it will get a boost from the rookie first-rounder any time soon. According to Schefter, Tyson is “making progress and feeling good,” but the earliest we may see him is Week 7. That said, due to the Saints playing Week 7 in Paris, Schefter also notes that “the most logical” return date for Tyson could be Week 9 after the team’s bye week. Fantasy managers stashing Tyson will need to continue doing so for the next several weeks, and even when he’s active, it could take a few games for him to see a full assortment of snaps. We can expect Devaughn Vele to continue operating as the Saints’ WR2 behind Chris Olave until Tyson returns.

George Holani rushed seven times for 18 yards in the Seahawks Week 4 win over the Chargers, adding one reception for two additional yards.

In the first week without Jadarian Price, Holani operated as a lightly used backup behind Emanuel Wilson, who rushed for 21-81-1, and added another 3-39-1 through the air on four targets. Any hope that Holani could see an increased workload sans Price needs to be put on hold for now. He can be left on fantasy benches in Week 5 when the Seahawks host the 49ers.

Christian McCaffrey had 15 rushes for 52 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers’ Week 4 win against the Broncos, adding three catches for 18 yards.

Denver’s defense focused on slowing down McCaffrey and the Niners’ run game. That forced Brock Purdy and the offense into a more pass-heavy approach. CMC surprisingly was not all that involved in the passing attack against a Broncos defense that has been generous to pass catchers out of the backfield this season. He saved his fantasy day with a goal line plunge in the second half. Kaelon Black, meanwhile, saw six carries on the day. McCaffrey will be a top-5 option in Week 5 against the Seahawks.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Lamar Jackson will have an MRI on his ankle Monday.

It was reported after Sunday’s win over the Titans that Jackson was “believed to be day-to-day” after he left the game with what appeared to be a relatively minor ankle injury. Jackson was spotted in a walking boot, which has raised a bit more concern for his Week 5 availability, but hopefully the MRI doesn’t reveal anything too severe. Jackson and the Ravens are set to take on the Falcons on Sunday night, which could make for a difficult situation for fantasy managers. We’ll surely receive countless updates on his status throughout the week, but fantasy managers should have a backup plan in place in the event he enters the weekend with a questionable designation. If he’s unable to play, Tyler Huntley would draw his first start of the season.

John Metchie caught 3-of-5 targets for 37 yards in the Panthers’ Week 4 win over the Lions.

Metchie operated as the WR2 in the absence of both Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette but was unable to return any fantasy utility on a night second-year receiver Tetairoa McMillan set new career highs in both receptions and yardage. Fantasy managers that were coaxed into adding Metchie through the injuries in Carolina can safely return him to the waiver from whence he came.

Darren Waller caught 3-of-6 targets for 36 yards in the Panthers’ Week 4 win over the Lions.

Waller saw minimal involvement as quarterback Bryce Young leaned into his top option through the air, feeding Tetairoa McMillan 16 targets on 41 pass attempts in the absence of both Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette. Fantasy managers that scooped Waller off of waivers following his two-touchdown game in Week 2 are surely left disappointed in the recent returns, making Waller a potential drop candidate as the Panthers head to their bye.

Tetairoa McMillan caught 14-of-16 targets for 192 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers’ Week 4 win over the Lions.

McMillan set career highs in both receptions and yardage in the first half with nine catches for 147 yards before the break. He operated as the clear alpha in a pass attack without both Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette, routinely dusting everyone the Lions had at their disposal in an injury-ravaged secondary. While the receiving line surely turns heads, fantasy managers were left even more ecstatic about the way in which he was utilized, with the second-year receiver catching six passes for 94 yards and both touchdowns while aligned in the slot. Offensive coordinator Brad Idzik is providing structure, sequencing, and situational tendencies unlike anything fans had grown accustomed to when head coach Dave Canales was helming the offense, resulting in quarterback Bryce Young leading the league in passing while averaging more than 30 points per game through the first month of play. McMillan’s ceiling remains sky-high as a legitimate WR1 when the Panthers square off against the Eagles fin Week 6 following their bye.
