Denzel Boston scores another TD in Week 2

Denzel Boston caught 5-of-7 targets for 95 yards and a touchdown in the Browns’ Week 2 win against the Bucs.

It’s the rookie’s second touchdown grab in as many weeks. After catching an intermediate pass from Deshaun Watson, Boston spun out of a tackle and raced to the end zone for a 55-yard score — by far the biggest play of the game. Boston is cementing himself as the clear WR1 in the Cleveland offense, well ahead of KC Concepcion — who had another inefficient day on Sunday — and Jerry Jeudy, who did not catch his lone target against Tampa. Boston will have plenty of deep league fantasy appeal in Week 3 against the Panthers.

Boston was third in targets among Browns pass catchers and saw lots and lots of air yards from Deshaun Watson, who nearly connected with Boston for two long touchdowns on the day. So it goes with a high-variance downfield option like Boston, who now has three straight quiet outings. With a 45 percent air yards share headed into Week 7, Boston will certainly have his big box scores in the coming weeks. Predicting when that might happen will be tough for fantasy managers. He should be a flex play in Week 8 against the Steelers.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
He’ll be on the WR3 line in a good matchup against the Titans. Boston finally had a clunker last week against Baltimore, but he’s been remarkably consistent otherwise and should find easier footing against Tennessee’s rough back seven.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
The Browns’ rookie field-stretcher played through his foot injury last week against the Ravens, posting just a 1/15 receiving line. Ostensibly, the foot is bothering him, but he still has a chance to suit up in Week 7 against the Titans. Hopefully, Boston upgrades to full participation tomorrow.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
Boston played through the injury last week, catching just 1-of-5 targets for 15 yards. The foot injury could be bugging him. Fortunately, he did not appear to suffer any setbacks. Boston is a WR3/FLEX against the Titans in Week 7.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
This was the worst game of Boston’s young career. After going for 40-plus yards in his first five games to start the season, the promising rookie was blanketed in coverage all afternoon and managed just one reception as a result. Boston may have had a chance at scoring were it not for a pass near the right side of the end zone sailing too far out of bounds for him to bring both feet down, but scoring opportunities were hard to come by in this one. Boston will be back on the fantasy radar as a WR3 next week against the Titans.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
He’ll be a usable WR3 against the Ravens this week. Boston has returned at least 41 yards in every start this year while hitting a deep gain seemingly weekly. The 22-year-old should be Cleveland’s No. 1 target again this week.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
Of the (many) Browns in real danger of missing this week’s game against the Ravens, Boston seems to be in the best shape of actually playing. Still, it is two limited sessions in two tries and we wouldn’t be surprised if he wound up with a questionable tag on Friday.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
A limited practice to start the week is usually nothing more than maintenance. Boston should still be a safe bet to suit up on Sunday. The second-round rookie has already cemented himself as an impressive downfield threat with three touchdowns and three catches of 40+ yards. He’s managed several spike weeks despite the Browns’ up-and-down performances on offense. Health permitting, Boston will be a low-end WR3 for Week 6 versus Baltimore.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
Boston’s score was his third in five games as a pro. This one was a 29-yard strike down the left sideline where Boston won a 1-on-1 matchup with CB Brandon Stephens. Boston’s yardage totals are not popping off the page in this limited offense, but his play-making ability has been. He has also reached at least 40 yards all five times out, giving him a non-zero floor. The rookie second-rounder continues to press his WR3 case heading into Week 6 against the Ravens.
  • CLE Wide Receiver

Boston has now led the Browns in receiving in three of the team’s first four games, made more impressive by the fact that those were the first four contests of the youngster’s professional career. The second-round rookie continues to flash big play potential after catching his third pass of 46 yards or longer, this time unable to find the end zone after scoring twice in his first two games. Boston still has room to grow considering he has seen just 22 targets in the first month of the season, and could reward fantasy managers that invested late-round picks in his services handsomely in the second half of his rookie year. He’ll be an upside FLEX option against the Jets in Week 5.

George Pickens (shoulder/hamstring) was limited in Wednesday’s walkthrough practice.

Pickens played through a minor shoulder injury last week, but the hamstring designation is new. He was still a limited practice participant, indicating neither injury should be an issue for his Week 8 status. Meanwhile, WR/KR KaVontae Turpin (ribs) was an estimated DNP in practice after not playing last week. The Cowboys may be missing Turpin again as a kick returner and gadget player on offense, but Pickens should still be the WR2 for Sunday against the Cardinals.

Jalen Carter said he “probably won’t be 100-percent this year” due to a wrist injury.

Carter has been dealing with a wrist injury since the beginning of the season, playing through it for the last seven weeks. He will continue to play through it, though the Eagles defensive tackle admits the wrist won’t be fully healed this season.

Jeremiyah Love (ankle) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said Love would be listed as limited for Wednesday’s practice. The 21-year-old rookie was moving around well during the media-viewing portion of practice and certainly has a good chance to play in Week 8. Barring setback, Love is in line to play in a juicy matchup against the Cowboys.

Titans claimed Jonah Laulu off waivers from the Raiders.

Tennessee waived Timmy Horne in a corresponding move. Laulu appeared in five games for the Raiders this year and recorded .5 sacks plus three QB hits. He made 15 starts for the Raiders last year and appeared in all 17 games. Laulu will be a depth option for the Titans.

Pat Surtain (ankle) is practicing in full for Week 8 against the Chiefs.

Jaylen Waddle (chest) did not practice on Wednesday.

Earlier today, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Waddle’s status for Week 8 against the Chiefs has not been determined. The Broncos’ No. 1 wide receiver aggravated his preexisting chest injury in Week 7 against the Cardinals. Backup plans should be made at this time.

Spencer Brown (back) did not practice Wednesday.

Brown initially suffered the back injury in Week 5. He missed most of that game but was back on the field for Week 6. Coming out of the bye with a DNP today suggests the issue isn’t getting better. If Brown isn’t able to play this week, Tylan Grable will take his spot at right tackle.

Texans claimed Emari Demercado, formerly of the Cowboys, off waivers.

Demercado will need to contribute on special teams to be active on game day, and he might also need David Montgomery (groin) to remain sidelined after the Week 8 bye. Demercado does not need to be added in 12-team leagues.

Dalton Kincaid (chest) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Kincaid briefly left the Bills’ Week 6 game against the Raiders with this injury, though it was called a rib issue at the time. He returned to the contest in the fourth quarter. Buffalo then got a well-timed Week 7 bye. A limited session today is nothing out of the ordinary for Kincaid. We fully expect him to play in Week 8 against the Ravens. In what could be the best game environment of the week, Kincaid remains a solid TE1 option.

    Jaylin Noel

Texans placed Jaylin Noel on injured reserve due to a toe injury.

Since the Texans are on bye in Week 8, Noel will not be eligible to return until Week 13 against the Steelers. It’s a tough break for Noel, whose involvement had begun trending upward. Hopefully, his injured reserve placement allows him to hit the ground running when he returns. Noel does not need to be held on benches.
