The 29-year-old Korean splits his time between the KPGA Korean Tour, Japan Golf Tour, and Asian Tour. He’s posted 11 worldwide top 10s since the start of 2017 which has him positioned at 178th in the OWGR. That earned him a seat into the field this week as one of the top 3 available golfers of Korean nationality, based on the OWGR (Sungjae Im and Sung Kang the other two). His home country has been comfortable stomping grounds this year, finishing T4 or better in three of his last five starts on the KPGA. His lone PGA TOUR appearance was a T24 at last year’s WGC-HSBC Champions. Ryu should be considered a long shot but it’s certainly possible that he sneaks his way into a top 25.
