The 18-year-old South Korean golfer has not taken the standard route to the European Tour. He turned professional in early 2017 and played on the third tier EuroPro Tour where he and his father would sometimes sleep in a hire car and, together with his fine results (he made six top tens including two wins), he became something of a cult figure among the membership. In his first 14 starts on the next year’s Challenge Tour he made only one top 30, but it was victory in the Czech Challenge, making him the youngest winner in the circuit’s history (17 years, 64 days). He made only two more top tens and didn’t add to that tally in 2019. However, he earned himself an invite at the Australian PGA Championship and grabbed T9, a first cut made in six ET starts. Still young, he is one for the future.
