The 26-year-old Flavin made five birdies, one eagle and one bogey en route to a 6-under 66 on Monday, and it marks his fifth successful attempt this season at Monday qualifying after doing so for the RBC Canadian Open – where he also earned medalist honors, but ultimately missed the cut, at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship (T-17), Puerto Rico Open (T-22), and the Mexico Open at Vidanta, where he missed the cut. Flavin finished T-54 at the Corales Puntacana Championship, where he was given a sponsor’s exemption, and more recently he missed the cut at the AT&T Byron Nelson in May. He can take next Monday off, though, as he’s already a sponsor exemption into the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Illinois. The Miami (Ohio) product has also made two starts on the Korn Ferry Tour last month, missing the cut at the AdventHealth Championship and finishing T-32 at the NV5 Invitational. Also getting into the field at TPC Highlands this week were Ben Silverman, Conrad Shindler and Bo Hoag, all of whom carded a 5-under 67 and avoided a playoff.
