7yTom Byrum shot 2-under-par 34-36=70 at The Club at Comanche Trace in Kerrville, Texas at the Monday qualifier for this week’s Valero Texas Open.

The PGA TOUR winner dropped in five birdies but suffered three bogeys to finish one stroke outside the 5-man playoff for the final two berths into the VTO. Looks like Byrum will capture his 2nd Top 10 of the year this week. Byrum’s only win came at the 1989 Kemper Open.

7yTom Byrum has been added to the published field of this week’s Reno-Tahoe Open.

Byrum was the 10th alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry when Jeff Overton withdrew. The 51-year-old Byrum missed the cut at the True South Classic two weeks ago, his only start on the PGA TOUR all season.

Byrum gained entry as an alternate on Monday. He is not playing on either the Champions or Web.com Tour this week.

Byrum has mostly played on the Nationwide Tour this season, where his only made cut in four starts was a T-69 at the South Georgia Classic.

7yTom Byrum withdrew on Monday morning from the Reno-Tahoe Open.

Byrum also withdrew during the middle of his second round at last week’s Canadian Open. He has been replaced in the field by Ian Leggatt, who has been playing on the nationwide Tour this year.

7yTom Byrum carded a round of 67 at the Fieldstone Golf Club and Monday qualified for the Buick Open.

It’s not to often that Monday qualifying is over before the last Tour event is over, but that is what happened this week as the Canadian Open went into a playoff. The round of 67 earned Byrum medalist honors by a stroke over Andrew Ruthkoski, and by two strokes over Randall Hutchison and Scott Cashell, who earned their spots in the field in a six-way playoff.

Byrum has been splitting time this season between the Nationwide and PGA Tours. He made his first cut of the season on the PGA Tour last week, when he finished tied for 46th place at the Buick open.

7yTom Byrum was added to the field of the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee this morning.

Byrum was the 10th alternate when the field was published on Friday and gained entry when Mathew Goggin withdrew. Since the event moved to Brown Deer Park, Byrum has cashed seven of 11 times, including a T-13 last year (and three Top 20s since 2001). That remains his best finish on the PGA Tour since the 2004 PGA Championship.
