This will only be Tom’s second showing alongside his son Sean as their debut together came last year when they finished in a tie for ninth. As before Tom had teamed up with his eldest son Thomas. Together Team Lehman enjoyed plenty of success having first played in the PNC Championship in 2007 when Thomas was only 12-years-old. Their most notable appearance came in 2019 when they finished in a tie for second, losing in a playoff to Bernhard Langer and his son. Sean will look to aid Tom this week as he is currently a freshman on the Cal Poly golf team. Despite not playing in any events this past semester, it is clear Sean has the type of game to compete in this 36-hole scramble.

Lehman has a spot in this week’s field by virtue of his 1995 victory at Colonial, with all champions before the year 2000 exempted in. At age 61, he nearly shot his age Thursday morning with a 5-under 65 that left him two shots off the early lead set by Justin Rose. Lehman hasn’t played this event since missing the cut in 2013, but he didn’t have much trouble with the historical layout during a round that included six birdies against just a single bogey. Lehman made his final Open appearance last year at Royal Portrush at age 60, and this week marks just the second non-major he has played on the PGA Tour since 2016. The Minnesota native also teed it up last year in the inaugural 3M Open in his home state, where he finished T-58.

Lehman should feel right at home at Royal Lytham and St. Annes, and with length not expected to be at a premium he could find himself contending once more. Now focusing his attention on the Champions Tour, he teed it up with the young guns once this year and posted a T16 at Mayakoba.

Lehman hasn’t won on Tour since the 2000 Phoenix Open. It would be nice to see him get a victory. He just seems like a nice guy on Tour!

Lehman had a near miss last week, finishing T2. As always, keep riding him while he’s hot. His last three finishes going into this week are: T4, T17, T2. We’ll see if he can add a 1st place finish to that list.
