The 24-year-old South Korean made waves back in January when he outlasted Jordan Spieth to secure the SMBC Singapore Open. Spieth’s presence in the field helped boost the OWGR strength of field over the mandatory 115 required for winners to earn entry into this week’s tournament. Other than that victory, he boasts seven additional top 25s in 12 starts since the calendar flipped to 2016. This will be Song’s debut in a WGC event, so expectations should be kept to a reasonable level, despite his fantastic form on the Japan Golf Tour.

The 24-year-old South Korean split eight (of 14) fairways and landed 10 greens in regulation. His flat stick caught fire right out of the gates, before calming as the round progressed. Song splashed home three putts from outside 11 feet over his first six holes, including a 32'8" birdie bomb at the par-4 first and a 21'11" long-distance birdie at the par-4 sixth hole. The youngster is making his PGA TOUR debut this week, but is showing no signs of intimidation through two days of action.

The 25-year-old finished on 11-under 277 (70→69→72→66) during last week’s CIMB Classic. The bogey-free, 6-under 66 during the finale helped him climb into the top 25, finishing T21 on the week. That is the same finishing position he earned at last year’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. On the Japan Golf Tour he ranks fourth in scoring average (69.92) as well as birdies per round (3.78). His breakout win came earlier this year at the SMBC Singapore Open, where he outlasted Jordan Spieth. With a pair of top 25s in three tries on the PGA TOUR, Song is an appealing sleeper in deeper fantasy formats this week.

Song finished T56 in his PGA Championship debut last year. He is a perfect 5-for-5 on the PGA TOUR, although three of his starts have come in no-cut events. A majority of his starts come in Asia on the Japan Golf Tour and Korean Golf Tour. Internationally, he is 17-for-19 in 2017, finishing top 30 in five of his last seven starts. At World No. 111, the 26-year-old is definitely a nice under-the-radar sleeper to consider in deeper fantasy formats this week.
