Completing an improbable title run for the Cardinals, hometown boy David Freese was just announced as the World Series MVP.
The 28-year-old third baseman batted .348 (8-for-22) during the series to go along with one home run, one triple, two doubles, seven RBI and five walks. After hitting the game-tying two-run triple and a walk-off solo home run in a thrilling Game 6 victory, Freese delivered a game-tying two-run double in the bottom of the first inning tonight.
Though Freese was awarded for his contributions during the World Series, he was locked in all postseason long. In fact, he is the sixth player to win both the World Series and LCS MVPs, joining Willie Stargell (1979), Darrell Porter (1982), Orel Hershisher (1988), Livan Hernandez (1997) and Cole Hamels (2008). And as Matthew mentioned a little earlier, Freese now holds the all-time single postseason record with 21 RBI.
