Footage of the 1919 World Series discovered

Joe Jackson

“Discovered” is a loose term here. It was found in the early 70s when a cache of films was uncovered in the Yukon permafrost. But after it was labeled it was stashed away a preservation center in Quebec, operated by Library and Archives Canada. It said “1919 World Series” on it, but if you weren’t looking for it or weren’t a savvy enough baseball fan to know the significance of that series and the Black Sox scandal, you may have just passed it by.

Now the film, which is a British-Canadian newsreel of the event, has been uncovered and publicized. And here it is:

This way better than “Field of Dreams.” Not as good as “Eight Men Out.” Three of four stars.
