Royals prospect Wil Myers sidelined with knee infection

Wil Myers

One of the game’s top outfield prospects, Wil Myers, is expected to miss another 10-12 days after going on the disabled list Sunday with a knee infection, the Kansas City Star’s Bob Dutton reports.

The 20-year-old Myers, who moved from catcher to right field this season, is hitting .284/.357/.392 in 74 at-bats as one of the youngest players in the Texas League. He excelled last year, batting .315/.429/.506 while splitting time between low-A Burlington and high-A Wilmington.

With a big season in Double-A this year, the thinking was that Myers might be ready to step into the Kansas City outfield in 2012. That’s still possible, but he is going to have to show more power. Plus, the Royals may have some interest in re-signing Jeff Francoeur if things continue as is.
