As the Kings continue to be the most dysfunctional franchise in the NBA, rumors continue to swirl about the potential that they could move franchise centerpiece DeMarcus Cousins. The Celtics have been the team most often linked to Cousins trade talks, but they’ve always been more wishful thinking on the part of rival teams than anything substantive. New Kings VP Vlade Divac confirmed, days before the draft, that trading Boogie isn’t on the agenda, although they could make a minor move ahead of the draft.
From the Sacramento Bee‘s Ailene Voisin:Additionally, he scoffed at rumors suggesting he would consider trading his All-Star center.
“That is not happening,” Divac said forcefully, “but I would love to do something, a smaller move, before the draft. We have a lot of changes to make. The league is much more up-tempo now, and we need more three-point shooting. If we don’t get that in the draft, we’ll be active in free agency and see about making trades later in the offseason. There’s no reason for the Kings to look to move Cousins now. He has three years left on the contract extension he signed in 2013, and entering the first full season with George Karl as head coach, there might be a little stability finally, where there has been none before. A team would have to absolutely blow Divac and the Kings front office away with an offer for the star big man.
