Seahawks defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence scored two touchdowns in his first 148 NFL games and he’s doubled that total after less than 16 minutes of Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.
Lawrence scooped up a Jacoby Brissett fumble in the first quarter and returned it for a 34-yard touchdown and then did the exact same thing on the second play of the second quarter. Linebacker Tyrice Knight forced both of the fumbles and Lawrence only had to take the second one 22 yards to get to the end zone.
The Seahawks also have a touchdown catch by Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who cleared 1,000 receiving yards in the first quarter and then passed a concussion evaluation after taking a big shot from Cardinals safety Budda Baker.
Given that it’s now 28-0 Seahawks with 14:08 left the play in the first half, they may not need much from Smith-Njigba the rest of the way.
Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the top receiver in the league through the first nine weeks of the season and he’s doing his best to stay on top of the heap in Week 10.
Smith-Njigba caught a 43-yard touchdown from Sam Darnold with just over four minutes off the clock in Seattle. The score put the Seahawks up 7-0 over the Cardinals.
It was the fifth touchdown catch of the season for Smith-Njigba, who also had an eight-yard catch on the drive and now has a league-high 999 receiving yards on the season.
The Seahawks didn’t wait to get the ball back before extending their lead. Linebacker Tyrice Knight forced Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett to fumble on a sack and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence scooped the ball up for a 34-yard score, so it’s now 14-0 with 9:22 to play in the first quarter.
The Seahawks will have wide receiver Cooper Kupp back in the lineup on Sunday.
Kupp missed last week’s win over the Commanders with heel and hamstring injuries that caused him to be listed as questionable this week. There were some hopeful reports leading up to the game and Kupp is indeed active against the Cardinals.
Wide receivers Jake Bobo and Tory Horton are out for Seattle, so Kupp’s return is a welcome development. Linebacker Jared Ivey cornerback Josh Jobe, linebacker Ernest Jones, quarterback Jalen Milroe, and offensive lineman Mason Richman are also inactive.
The Cardinals’ inactive players are cornerback Will Johnson, linebacker Mack Wilson, cornerback Max Melton, offensive lineman Demontrey Jacobs, offensive lineman Josh Fryar, wide receiver Xavier Weaver, and defensive lineman Bilal Nichols.
The Seahawks have added a pair of wideouts to their roster for the second straight game.
Cody White’s stay is set to be longer this time. He was elevated on a temporary basis last week, but was signed to the 53-man roster this week.
Dareke Young was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Young was ruled out along with Jake Bobo on Sunday. Tory Horton is listed as doubtful and Cooper Kupp is listed as questionable, so the Seahawks also elevated Ricky White for the second game in a row.
Cody White had a 60-yard touchdown catch last Sunday night. He played 36 offensive snaps and Ricky White played seven while also seeing time on special teams.
The Seahawks also placed defensive tackle Jarran Reed on injured reserve, signed defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna off the practice squad and elevated linebacker Patrick O’Connell for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.
In the fourth quarter of Monday night’s game against the Cardinals, the Cowboys were down by 10 points and driving. After making a catch for a first down in Arizona territory, Pickens held the ball in the direction of Cardinals cornerback Denzel Burke.
Pickens was flagged for taunting.
On Saturday, the league announced that Pickens has been fined $17,389.
The penalty added 15 yards to the Cowboys’ effort to carve deeper into what had been a 17-point Cardinals lead. The Cowboys didn’t score again in the game.
For Pickens, it was a reminder that — despite having immense talent — there’s an immaturity that can rear its head an inopportune times. And that will become a factor for any team monitoring his performance in 2025 (which has been very impressive) with an eye toward possibly trying to sign him in free agency, if Pickens and the Cowboys can’t come to agreement on a new deal.
