A former Cowboys player could be returning as a member of the coaching staff.
Now Kellen Moore. And not Jason Witten (at least not yet).
Clarence E. Hill Jr. of alldlls.com reports that the Cowboys will interview former Cowboys running back Tashard Choice for the position of running backs coach.
Choice, a fourth-round pick in 2008, spent four seasons with the Cowboys. He also played for Washington, Buffalo, and Indianapolis during a six-year playing career.
His coaching career began in 2016, as an intern with the Cowboys. He then shifted to the college game, starting at North Texas before returning to Georgia Tech, where he played college football, in 2019. In 2022, Choice was hired to coach running backs at Texas. His pupils included Jahymr Gibbs (2020-21), Bijan Robinson (2022), and Jonathan Brooks (2023).
As noted by Hill, Choice made $700,000 in 2024 and he’s due to earn $725,000 in 2025. Which means that the Cowboys might have to open up Jerry’s change purse if they hope to lure him away from the Longhorns.
The Cowboys have found their new offensive coordinator.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that they will hire Cardinals offensive line coach Klayton Adams. The Cowboys promoted offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach to create the vacancy.
Adams spent the last two seasons on Jonathan Gannon’s staff with the Cardinals. He previously served as the tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach for the Colts and has previous coordinator experience at the University of Colorado.
Schottenheimer will call the team’s offensive plays, so that will not be part of Adams’s responsibilities with the team. The Cowboys have talked about wanting to focus on the run game and Adams’s offensive line background likely appealed to them on that front.
The Lions have seen several assistants leave the team since their playoff loss to the Commanders and another one is in the mix for a job with the Cowboys.
Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports that the Cowboys have interviewed Lions running backs coach Scottie Montgomery for their offensive coordinator position. Cardinals offensive line coach Klayton Adams, Falcons tight ends coach Kevin Koger and former Browns offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey have also been linked with the team.
Montgomery, who also has the assistant head coach title in Detroit, has been with the Lions for the last two years. He was the Colts’ running backs coach for the previous two seasons and also spent three years as the head coach at East Carolina.
The Cowboys have hired defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus and special teams coordinator Nick Sorensen, which leaves the offensive coordinator position as the most prominent opening on Brian Schottenheimer’s staff.
The Cowboys may be closing in on hiring their next offensive coordinator.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that Cardinals offensive line coach Klayton Adams will interview with the team at their facility on Friday. Adams had a remote interview with the team earlier this week.
Adams joined the Cardinals staff after Jonathan Gannon was hired as their head coach in 2023. He spent the previous four years with the Colts as an assistant offensive line coach and tight ends coach.
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said this week that the team is looking for a coordinator who is “outstanding” in the run game. The Cardinals finished seventh in the league in rushing yards during the 2024 season.
The Cowboys have interviewed Saints running backs coach Derrick Foster for the same position on Brian Schottenheimer’s staff, Todd Archer of ESPN reports.
Foster has spent one season in New Orleans, which has yet to make official a head coach hire. Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is a favorite for the job.
Foster has extensive experience in the college ranks but has only four seasons of NFL experience.
He began his NFL career with the Chargers in 2021, overseeing Austin Ekeler and the team’s other running backs. Foster left when the Chargers hired Jim Harbaugh as their new head coach last year.
Jeff Blasko served as the Cowboys’ running backs coach and run game coordinator last season.
