The Ravens have made a pair of elevations for Thursday night’s matchup with the Dolphins.
Baltimore announced on Thursday that safety Keondre Jackson and defensive tackle Taven Bryan will be available from the practice squad for the Week 9 game.
Jackson has appeared in Baltimore’s last two games, playing exclusively on special teams. He’s recorded 29 total snaps with the unit, which amounts to 67 percent of the reps in games played.
Bryan was on the field for 22 defensive snaps and two special teams snaps last week in the win over the Bears. A first-round pick in 2018, Bryan has appeared in 114 career games with 46 starts.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson grew up in the Miami area. After missing more than a month with a hamstring injury, Jackson will return to action tonight, when the Ravens face the Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium.
It will be his third NFL start in Miami. The first one came in the first game of his first MVP performance. In Week 1 of the 2019 season, Jackson and the Ravens shredded the Dolphins, 59-10.
That day, Jackson completed 23 of 26 passes for 378 yards and five touchdown passes. The numbers translated to a perfect passer rating of 158.3.
On a Thursday night in 2021, things do quite as well. The Ravens entered the game with a 6-2 record; the Dolphins were 2-7. Baltimore was favored by 8.5 points. And the Dolphins upended the Ravens, 22-10.
This time around, the Ravens are favored by 7.5 points. Baltimore is 2-5, and Miami is 2-6. While both teams are desperate for a win, the Ravens seem better suited to get there.
Much will depend on whether Jackson can make a big splash in his latest homecoming. He’s healthy and motivated. He’s obviously talented, more than the vast majority of NFL quarterbacks.
A week ago, tonight’s game didn’t look too compelling. With both teams winning on Sunday and with Jackson fully recovered from his hamstring injury, it got a lot more interesting.
Even if there’s a chance that it will be over early — especially if the game goes like the first time Jackson played the Dolphins in Miami.
The Dolphins list pass rusher Bradley Chubb as questionable to play Thursday night against the Ravens.
Chubb was estimated as a non-participant on Monday with shoulder and foot injuries but returned to limited work on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday that he was “confident” in Chubb’s availability, and Chubb insisted he is playing.
“I’ll be good,” Chubb said, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “You have a short week. Things flare up in the game before. You just want to make sure you get on it and correct it.”
Chubb has four sacks, a fumble recovery and five tackles for loss after missing last season with a knee injury.
The team ruled out tight end Julian Hill (ankle).
The Dolphins list safety Ashtyn Davis (quad) as doubtful to play after he was listed as a non-participant all week.
Safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (thumb), wide receiver Dee Eskridge (shoulder) and cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. (hamstring) are questionable.
Lamar Jackson is set to return from his hamstring injury on Thursday night.
The Ravens’ injury report lists no player with a designation for the game against the Dolphins.
The Ravens quarterback was listed as a full participant all week.
Jackson returned to limited work last week but did not play Sunday, the third game he missed with his soft-tissue injury.
He led the NFL with a 130.5 passer rating with 10 touchdowns and an interception before his injury, and the Ravens averaged 32.7 points per game with Jackson.
Every player for the Ravens was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice, including offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle). Stanley was limited Monday and Tuesday.
Linebacker Teddye Buchanan (calf), cornerback T.J. Tampa Jr. and cornerback Nate Wiggins (groin) also are good to go.
The Dolphins got a much-needed win over the Falcons in Week 8 and their defense played a major role in the victory.
Miami held the Falcons to 213 yards and shut down running back Bijan Robinson in the 34-10 victory. Linebacker Jordyn Brooks had a big hand in that effort.
Brooks had 10 tackles, a sack, and three tackles for losses over the course of the afternoon. Brooks now leads the league with 85 tackles and 53 solo tackles on the season.
The NFL announced that Brooks has been named the AFC’s defensive player of the week as a result of his performance. It is the first time he has taken that prize.
