The Bears have filled the two openings on their defensive coaching staff.
As expected, the team announced Thursday that they have hired Reggie Herring as their linebackers coach and Paul Pasqualoni as their defensive line coach. The addition of Herring, who was most recently the Texans’ linebackers coach, was reported on Wednesday while Pasqualoni has been linked with a job on Marc Trestman’s staff for some time.
Pasqualoni was fired in September as the head coach of the University of Connecticut, where he compiled a 10-18 record over parts of three seasons. Pasqualoni also spent 14 years as Syracuse’s head coach, going 107-59-1, and spent time with the Cowboys and Dolphins between his two collegiate head coaching stints.
With Herring and Pasqualoni on board, the Bears have filled the two openings on their defensive staff heading into Mel Tucker’s second season as the coordinator. They’ll be working to turn around a defense that finished near the bottom of the league in both points and yards allowed and they may be doing it without impending free agents Henry Melton and Charles Tillman.
