When the Jets and Redskins went into halftime, Washington held a 13-10 lead thanks in large part to three Jets turnovers.
It felt like the Jets would win the game if they stopped turning the ball over, but they did one better in the third quarter. After tying the game on a Nick Folk field goal, Darrelle Revis picked off Kirk Cousins deep in Washington territory. It was a bad decision by Cousins, who went late to that side of the field and threw a ball that Revis would have had to drop to avoid an interception.
Ryan Fitzpatrick ran 18 yards for a touchdown on the next play and then threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Marshall on the next Jets possession to give them a 27-13 lead with just under six minutes to go in the quarter.
Cousins had success keeping things simple in the first half, but being down two scores will likely lead him to take more chances and Cousins’s history says that could create some for the Jets defense in the process.
