49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings is on track to play against the Seahawks in Week 1.

Jennings missed most of the summer with a calf injury, but he returned to practice this week and is set to continue practicing in the days leading up to the opener. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Wednesday that the workload will be a limited one while adding that all signs are that Jennings is good to go for this weekend.

“He looked good on Monday, getting back into it,” Shanahan said, via 49ersWebzone.com. “Having all that time off, we’ve gotta ease him in and stuff, so we’ll see how this week goes. That’s why he’ll be limited today, but he’s healthy enough to play football, and hopefully, that continues.”

Jennings has also been looking for a new contract, but there’s no sign of anything imminent on that front. Strong play might make an agreement likelier and it appears Jennings will get a chance to show he’s capable of it in a few days.

Monday brought a positive development for the 49ers’ receiving corps.

Reporters at the open portion of practice shared photos and videos of Jauan Jennings taking part in the session. The wideout has been sidelined by a calf injury for an extended period of time, but the word in the last week or so has been that the team expects him to play against the Seahawks this week.

Monday’s workout is a good sign that things are moving in that direction, although the team won’t issue their first official injury report of the season until after Wednesday’s practice is in the books.

In addition to the calf issue, Jennings’s outlook for the season has been clouded by his desire for a new contract. Jennings asked for a trade at one point, but the 49ers have been adamant that they won’t go that route and now it looks like they should have the wideout in action to kick off the season.

The NFL and Nike have found a new way to get fans to buy merchandise in the form of new “Rivalries Uniforms,” the first eight of which have been unveiled today.

The AFC East and NFC West teams will wear newly designed “Rivalries” uniforms once this season, always in a home game against a division rival. More “Rivalries” uniforms will be unveiled during the 2026, 2027 and 2028 season until all 32 teams have worn them, and they’ll become part of the regular uniform rotation, in addition to teams’ existing alternate uniforms.

The NFL and Nike will begin selling the “Rivalries” apparel on September 10, and they’re all being displayed by Nike here.

The schedule for the debut appearances of the eight “Rivalries” games is as follows:

Arizona Cardinals: Sept. 25 vs. Seattle Seahawks

Miami Dolphins: Sept. 29 vs. New York Jets

Buffalo Bills: Oct. 5 vs. New England Patriots

New England Patriots: Nov. 13 vs. New York Jets

Los Angeles Rams: Nov. 16 vs. Seattle Seahawks

New York Jets: Dec. 7 vs. Miami Dolphins

Seattle Seahawks: Dec. 18 vs. Los Angeles Rams

San Francisco 49ers: Jan. 4, 2026, vs. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks claimed cornerback Derion Kendrick off waivers from the Rams on Wednesday, the team announced.

They released veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffin in a corresponding move.

Kendrick, who won national championships at both Clemson and Georgia, began his college career as a receiver before converting to cornerback. He also returned kickoffs during his first two seasons at Clemson.

The Rams made Kendrick a sixth-round pick in 2022 and appeared in 15 games as a rookie, making six starts. Kendrick took over a starting role in 2023, starting 12 of 17 games played, then he missed the entire 2024 season with a torn ACL.

In his career, Kendrick recorded 92 tackles, 14 passes defensed, three tackles for loss and one interception, which came in a Rams’ 2023 win over Seattle.

Griffin, a 2017 third-round pick of the Seahawks, spent his first four seasons in Seattle, earning Pro-Bowl honors in 2019. He signed with Jacksonville as a free agent in 2021.

In addition to his time with the Jaguars, Griffin also played for the Texans, Panthers and Vikings over the past two seasons. He signed with Seattle as a free agent earlier this offseason.

The Seahawks are adding a free-agent linebacker.

Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, Seattle has agreed to sign Chazz Surratt after he was released by the 49ers earlier this week.

Surratt, 28, was a Vikings third-round pick in 2021. He spent just one year with the Vikings before he was waived and ended up with the Jets.

He played with New York through 2024, receiving the most playing time of his career last year. In 17 games with five starts, Surratt recorded 28 total tackles with two tackles for loss and one QB hit. Surratt was on the field for 12 percent of defensive snaps and 63 percent of special teams snaps.

Seattle will have to make a corresponding move to get Surratt on the 53-man roster.
