Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence remains sidelined after taking a hit from Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair last Sunday.
Head coach Doug Pederson told reporters in his press conference that Lawrence will not practice on Wednesday.
Pederson did not comment on Lawrence’s status beyond that.
That puts Mac Jones in line to start his third game of the season for Jacksonville when the club plays Tennessee on Sunday.
In five total appearances, Jones has completed 62 percent of his passes for 512 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions this season. Jones put together his best performance in relief of Lawrence last Sunday, completing 20-of-32 passes for 235 yards with a pair of touchdowns.
Lawrence has completed 60.6 percent of his throws for 2,045 yards with 11 touchdowns and seven picks in 2024.
Jacksonville’s full Wednesday injury report will be released later in the day.
The NFL has suspended Titans safety Julius Wood for six games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances, the league announced.
That will keep him out the balance of the 2024 season and for the first game in 2025.
The Titans claimed Wood off waivers from the Cowboys after final cutdowns in August. He has played only five defensive snaps and 115 on special teams.
He has two tackles in nine games.
The Titans have only 51 players on their roster currently, though cornerback Chidobe Awuzie is expected to be activated from injured reserve.
Tennessee has Amani Hooker, Daryl Worley and Mike Brown as the only safeties on the 53-player roster.
After being released by the Titans in October, safety Jamal Adams found a new squad, signing with Detroit’s practice squad.
With several injuries on defense, Adams can potentially provide some depth as another option. Adams seemingly wasn’t expecting to get any kind of opportunity with a contender like Detroit but is grateful for it.
“I mean, they’ve been kicking everybody’s ass,” Adams said, via Jared Ramsey of the Detroit Free Press. “So I’m fortunate enough to, again, just to be on a team that’s rolling like that. And whatever I can do to help, that’s what I’m here for.
“It’s a dream come true,” Adams added. “They didn’t have to call me. They didn’t need me — they’ve been doing phenomenal. So just to get that call from a first-class organization like the Detroit Lions, it’s a no-brainer for me. I’m just grateful for my opportunity, and wherever they want me out there, whenever they call my name and call my number, I’m there.”
Adams appeared in just three games for Tennessee this season before he was released. While he has been a safety throughout his career, he’s played in the box a lot, closer to the line of scrimmage. That experience could make him valuable for a team that has lost several players along its front seven.
“I just feel like I can do a little bit of everything,” Adams said. “Whatever they ask me to do, I’m definitely going to do it to the best of my ability and just fly around and continue to make plays.”
Adams, 29, has appeared in just 13 games since the start of the 2022 season. He appeared in nine contests for Seattle last year, recording 48 total tackles with seven talkies for loss, two QB hits, and two passes defensed.
The Commanders needed this one after three consecutive losses, all by one score. They took it to a lesser team Sunday, scoring touchdowns on their first four possessions and cruising to a 42-19 win over the Titans.
Washington improved to 8-5, while Tennessee fell to 3-9.
The Commanders outgained the Titans 463 to 245, with Jayden Daniels accounting for four touchdowns.
Daniels threw for three touchdowns — a 16-yarder to Terry McLaurin, a 3-yarder to McLaurin and a 4-yarder to Zach Ertz — and ran for a 3-yard score. He was 25-of-30 for 206 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.
Daniels had 34 of the team’s 267 rushing yards on nine carries. Brian Robinson rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and Chris Rodriguez had a career day with 13 carries for 94 yards and a touchdown.
The Titans held the Texans to 40 yards rushing last week, but Robinson went 40 yards for a touchdown on the Commanders’ first rush of the day.
Daniels completed 25 of 30 passes for 206 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. McLaurin caught eight passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns.
McLaurin’s touchdowns came after back-to-back fumbles by the Titans.
Will Levis went 18-for-37 for 212 yards and two touchdowns, with Nick Westbrook-Ikhine catching three for 61 yards and two touchdowns.
The Commanders dominated the first half and took a 28-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.’
It should have been more but after scoring touchdowns on their first four possessions, the Commanders had Zane Gonzalez miss a 46-yard field goal on their fifth drive.
The Titans then scored with 23 seconds remaining in the half on Will Levis’ 27-yard touchdown pass to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.
Washington has outgained Tennessee 246 to 116, with the Titans producing only 28 yards on their first five possessions. Tennessee lost back-to-back fumbles, which led to touchdown receptions of 16 and 3 yards by Terry McLaurin.
McLaurin has six catches for 52 yards.
Jayden Daniels is 14-of-15 for 105 yards and two touchdowns, and he has run for a 3-yard touchdown as part of his six carries for 30 yards. Brian Robinson has 11 carries for 85 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown run.
Levis is 9-of-16 for 96 yards and a touchdown.
