Skate America lost another men’s star with the withdrawal of world silver medalist Denis Ten on Wednesday.

Ten withdrew due to illness from the Detroit event, according to figure skating writer Tatjana Flade. Skate America begins with the men’s short program Friday night.

Ten, 20 and of Kazakhstan, joins 2010 Olympic champion Evan Lysacek in pulling out of the first Grand Prix event of the season.

Lysacek, who hasn’t competed since the Vancouver Games, withdrew on Sept. 30, citing a torn labrum in his hip. He was replaced in the field by fellow American Jason Brown.

There will be no replacement for Ten.

Their absences leave Olympic bronze medalist Daisuke Takahashi as the most accomplished men’s skater in the field. The top American is reigning U.S. champion Max Aaron.

World champion Patrick Chan will make his Grand Prix debut at Skate Canada next week. Ten is entered in the Cup of China Nov. 1-3.
