Steelers waived/released QB Paxton Lynch, RB Kerrith Whyte Jr., Trey Edmunds, Wendell Smallwood, WR Saeed Blacknall, WR DeAndre Thompkins, WR Deon Cain, WR Amara Darboh, WR Ryan Switzer, OL Christian DiLauro, OL John Keenoy, OL Derwin Gray, OL Anthony Coyle, OL Jarron Jones, TE Kyle Markway, TE Kevin Rader, DL Cavon Walker, DL Henry Mondeaux, DL Calvin Taylor, DL Daniel McCullers, LB Tuzar Skipper, LB Jayrone Elliott, DB Trajan Brady, DB John Battle, DB Antoine Brooks Jr., P Corliss Waitman, and LS Liam McCullough.
Lynch was brought in to compete with Devlin Hodges and Mason Rudolph for the backup quarterback role. Pittsburgh decided to keep both of their 2019 backups and move on from Lynch. Hodges closed out last year as Pittsburgh’s starter but did so in a miserable loss to the Ravens. He completed just nine passes and was held to 95 yards through the air. The Steelers appear to be banking on a healthy season from Ben Roethlisberger this year.

Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News reports the Cowboys are considering free agent QB Paxton Lynch.
Lynch passed through waivers unclaimed after being let go by the Seahawks on Friday. The Cowboys only have Cooper Rush behind starter Dak Prescott and could certainly add another arm to their quarterback room. Lynch, a former first-round pick out of Memphis, spent last year out of the league after failing to make the Broncos out of training camp. His career is hanging by a thread.
  • FA Quarterback
    Seahawks waived QB Paxton Lynch.
The 2016 first-rounder sealed his fate with a miserable performance in Thursday’s preseason finale, completing 1-of-7 passes for four yards against Oakland. One of the more embarrassing draft reaches in recent memory, Lynch could stay on as a member of the Seahawks’ practice squad, provided he passes through waivers unclaimed. Geno Smith will begin the year as Russell Wilson’s backup in Seattle.

Paxton Lynch (concussion, neck) won’t play in the Seahawks’ third preseason game.
Lynch is in the concussion protocol after a helmet-to-helmet hit in last week’s game. It’s a setback to Lynch’s chances of winning the backup role behind Russell Wilson, though he likely wouldn’t have played much. Geno Smith (knee) will serve as the No. 2 quarterback against the Chargers.

Seahawks signed QB Paxton Lynch to a reserve/future contract.
The 2016 first-round mega bust did not struggle for workouts in 2018 but spent the year out of the league after being waived by the Broncos. It’s a nothing-to-lose flier for a Seahawks squad that has routinely had one of the league’s worst backup quarterback situations. Thankfully for them, Russell Wilson has literally never missed a game. Lynch seems unlikely to earn No. 2 duties in training camp. He just isn’t polished enough to be an NFL quarterback.

Free agent QB Paxton Lynch worked out for the Titans on Tuesday.
Lynch has visited a handful of teams since being waived by the Broncos in early September, but he hasn’t signed anything yet. The Titans current backup to Marcus Mariota is Blaine Gabbert, so working out quarterbacks isn’t the worst idea for Tennessee. The Titans also worked out former Jaguars TE Ben Koyack.

Free agent QB Paxton Lynch worked out for the Buccaneers on Wednesday.
Lynch has gotten a few nibbles since his release from Denver last month but remains unemployed. The Bucs don’t have an obvious need at quarterback with Jameis Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick in tow, though obviously it doesn’t hurt for them to give Lynch a look. After flaming out in spectacular fashion with the Broncos, the 2016 first-rounder’s NFL career is hanging by a thread.

Free agent QB Paxton Lynch visited the Jaguars on Tuesday.
Lynch has been on quite the tour since he was cut by Denver. Lynch has now visited the Jags, Eagles, Lions, and Bills but he still needs a team to decide to carry three quarterbacks or fill in for an injured player. The Jaguars also had RB Jeremy Langford and WR Chad Hansen in for a visit.

Broncos.com’s Andrew Mason describes the team’s quarterback job as a “wide open” competition.
Mason cautioned to not “assume” Mark Sanchez will be named the Broncos’ Week 1 starter, and doesn’t anticipate coach Gary Kubiak making any announcements until the preseason is underway. Kubiak plans to “spread the reps around,” giving Sanchez, Paxton Lynch, and Trevor Siemian equally long looks. “When he says it’s going to be an open competition, he means it,” Mason said of Kubiak. “Don’t assume anything.” With Sanchez (thumb surgery) sitting out OTAs, Lynch and Siemian are seeing expanded practice work.

Paxton Lynch will play the entire second half of Thursday’s preseason opener against the Bears.
Mark Sanchez will start and play the first quarter, with Trevor Siemian manning the second. As Rotoworld’s Josh Norris points out, it makes Lynch an intriguing play in preseason DFS. Lynch isn’t a candidate to start in Week 1, but could raise the specter for later in the season with a strong exhibition slate.
