NBC SPORTS GROUP PRESENTS DAILY LIVE COVERAGE OF THE 2016 AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA MAY 15-22

Coverage Begins with Amgen Tour of California Preview Show This Sunday, May 8, at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN

Race Coverage Begins with Stage 1 on May 15 at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN

STAMFORD, Conn. – May 5, 2016 – NBC Sports Group will present 16 hours of live race coverage of the 2016 Amgen Tour of California, beginning Sunday, May 15, at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN and culminating with the final stage on Sunday, May 22 at 4 p.m. ET on NBC. NBCSN kicks off tour coverage with the Amgen Tour of California Preview Show this Sunday at 5 p.m. ET.

144 cyclists from 18 elite professional teams are expected to compete in the eight-day race. Top contenders include 2015 Amgen Tour of California champion Peter Sagan (Tinkoff), who won the by the closest margin in race history (3 seconds), and second-place finisher Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx - Quick-Step). Alaphilippe’s teammate and top sprinter Mark Cavendish (Etixx - Quick-Step) also returns to the race after winning four individual stages last year.

NBC Sports Group will air highlights of the women’s race throughout its coverage of the 2016 Amgen Tour of California, and will present a comprehensive highlight show featuring robust coverage of the women’s race on Friday, May 27, at 1:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN.

Highlighting the women’s field are two-time Olympic time trial gold medalist and two-time world champion Kristin Armstrong (Twenty16-RideBiker), Olympian and three-time team time trial world champion Evelyn Stevens (Boels–Dolmans); and UCI rankings leader Emma Johansson (Wiggle-High5).

The Amgen Tour of California covers nearly 800 miles of California’s scenic terrain, with this year’s course beginning in San Diego, and weaving through South Pasadena, Santa Clarita, Thousand Oaks, Santa Barbara County, Morro Bay, Monterey County, South Lake Tahoe, Folsom and Santa Rosa before concluding in Sacramento.

Phil Liggett, Paul Sherwen and 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge winner Christian Vande Velde will call the action along with reporter Steve Schlanger. ‘Inside-the-Race’ correspondent Steve Porino will report from aboard a motorcycle on the course, and offer updates on race situations. Jens Voigt, who has three top-10 Tour of California finishes to his name, returns as an analyst and reporter after making his debut at the event last year. Schlanger hosts the Amgen Tour of California Preview Show this Sunday.
