Live Coverage of 2023 FIS World Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski Championships Begins from Bakuriani, Georgia, This Sunday, Feb. 19, at 3 a.m. ET on Peacock
STAMFORD, Conn. – Feb. 15, 2023 – Two-time Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin, who has already won a silver medal in the women’s super-G at this year’s world championships, headlines NBC Sports’ continuing live coverage presented by Stifel of the 2023 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships – featuring every race live on Peacock and SkiAndSnowboard.Live – continuing tomorrow, Feb. 16, with the women’s giant slalom at 4 a.m. ET on Peacock and SkiAndSnowboard.Live.
Peacock will provide coverage of every race in every discipline of the 2023 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships continuing tomorrow live at 4 a.m. ET with the women’s giant slalom, headlined by Shiffrin. Her signature race, the women’s slalom, will begin on Saturday at 4 a.m. ET, where she is the favorite to win her fifth world championship in the event. Including last week’s silver in the super-G, Shiffrin has 12 career World Championship medals, the most by a woman in the modern era (since 1948) and tied with Kjetil Andre Aamodt (Norway) for the most by a man or woman in the modern era.
NBC will present coverage of the women’s giant slalom and women’s slalom on Saturday and Sunday. All events will also stream live and be available on demand on SkiAndSnowboard.Live right after the race ends.
NBC Sports’ Steve Schlanger will call all world championship events alongside former Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team member Steve Porino.
2023 FIS WORLD SNOWBOARD, FREESTYLE AND FREESKI CHAMPIONSHIPS
In addition to the Alpine World Ski Championships, NBC Sports will present live coverage of the 2023 FIS World Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski Championships from Bakuriani, Georgia, beginning this Sunday, Feb. 19, with the men’s and women’s snowboard parallel giant slalom at 3 a.m. ET on Peacock. More than 25 hours of live coverage will be streamed on Peacock next week.
Two-time Olympic champion and six-time world champion snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis and 2022 Beijing Olympic mixed snowboard team cross champion Nick Baumgartner lead the U.S. Snowboard Team in Bakuriani. Two-time Olympian and 2019 slopestyle world champion Chris Corning, two-time halfpipe world medalist Maddie Mastro and Beijing Olympians Chase Josey, Lucas Foster, Zoe Kalapos, Stacy Gaskill and Cody Winters are also expected to compete for the Americans.
On the international side, two-time big air Olympic champion Anna Gasser (Austria), and three-time Olympic medalists Zoi Sadowski-Synnott (New Zealand) and Ayumu Hirano (Japan) are all expected to compete.
In freeskiing, the U.S. team is led by two-time Olympic halfpipe gold medalist David Wise and two-time Olympic halfpipe medalist Alex Ferreira. The freestyle team will be headlined by 2022 Olympic moguls silver medalist Jaelin Kauf, 2022 Olympic aerials bronze medalist Megan Nick, and Ashley Caldwell, Justin Schoenfeld, and Chris Lillis, who won gold in the first-ever Olympic mixed team aerials event in Beijing.
International stars expected to compete include 2018 Olympic moguls gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury (Canada), 2022 Beijing Olympic big air champion Birk Ruud (Norway), and three-time Olympic medalist Mathilde Gremaud (Switzerland).
Peacock will provide live coverage of every final event throughout the duration of the championships. Two two-hour encore presentations will be presented on CNBC on Sunday, March 5, at 10 a.m. ET and Saturday, March 11, at 10 a.m. ET.
For the March 5 encore presentation, Trace Worthington will handle play-by-play while two-time Olympic medalist mogul skier Hannah Kearney will serve as analyst. For the March 11 encore presentation, Tina Dixon will handle play-by-play alongside 2013 slopestyle world silver medalist Tom Wallisch.
