Paris Olympic Track & Field Hopefuls Compete for Medals on a World Championship Stage

STAMFORD, Conn. – Feb. 29, 2024 – Olympians and world champions Noah Lyles, Grant Holloway, Ryan Crouser, and Katie Moon headline NBC Sports’ presentation of the 2024 World Indoor Championships from Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland, this weekend across Peacock, NBC, and CNBC.

Peacock will stream all events live beginning tomorrow, Friday, March 1, and CNBC will present live coverage this Sunday at 2 p.m. ET, with encore presentations on CNBC Saturday at 9 a.m. ET and Sunday at 8 a.m. ET. Additionally, NBC will present taped coverage on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Team USA is expected to be led by six-time world champion Noah Lyles, who took down 60m world record holder Christian Coleman (also representing the U.S. in Glasgow) by 0.01 seconds at the U.S. Indoor Championships two weeks ago. Lyles, the reigning outdoor world champion in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m, is competing at his first-ever World Indoor Championship and will battle Coleman yet again for his first indoor world title.

Earlier this week, Lyles, who won three gold medals at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, was announced as a nominee for Sportsman of the Year at the Laureus World Sports Awards, alongside Lionel Messi (soccer), Novak Djokovic (tennis), Max Verstappen (Formula One), Erling Haaland (soccer), and Mondo Duplantis (track & field). Additionally, on Monday, Lyles agreed to a contract extension with adidas that is, according to the news release, “the richest contract in the sport of track and field since the retirement of Usain Bolt.” This extension will keep him with the company through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Other U.S. world champions expected to compete in Glasgow include 60m hurdles world record holder and defending world indoor champion Grant Holloway, reigning Olympic and world outdoor shot put champion Ryan Crouser, and reigning Olympic and world pole vault champion Katie Moon.

Team USA will also be represented by American mile record holder Yared Nuguse, American indoor mile record holder Elle St. Pierre, 60m American record holder Aleia Hobbs, and 2024 U.S. indoor 1500m champion Cole Hocker, among others.

A strong international contingent is expected to toe the line this weekend, including reigning Olympic and world 400m hurdles champion and world record holder Karsten Warholm (Norway), reigning Olympic and world pole vault champion and world record holder Mondo Duplantis (Sweden), reigning 400m hurdles world champion Femke Bol (Netherlands), 60m hurdles world record holder Devynne Charlton (Bahamas), and the Scottish duo of Tokyo Olympic 1500m silver medalist Laura Muir and reigning 1500m world champion Josh Kerr, competing in front of their home crowd.

NBC Sports’ Paul Swangard calls the action alongside four-time Olympic medalist Ato Boldon, two-time Olympian Kara Goucher, and 2012 London Olympic decathlon silver medalist Trey Hardee. Lewis Johnson serves as reporter.
