John Terry, 35, has been offered a new one-year contract by Chelsea.

The Chelsea captain has spent his entire career at Stamford Bridge -- making his debut for the Blues in 1998 -- but in January he revealed he would not be offered a new deal by the club.

Terry’s current contract is set to run out this summer but now he has the chance to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge and be part of Antonio Conte’s plans as he arrives as the new manager this summer.

The veteran central defender was named in the PFA Team of the Year last season and played every single minute as Chelsea won the Premier League. Terry has also won 14 major trophies for Chelsea, winning four PL titles, five FA Cups, a Champions League, a Europa League and three League Cups.

In his injury-hit campaign in 2015-16 he has largely impressed and showed just how good he still is when it comes to reading the game and organizing the team around him.

On Friday, ahead of interim boss Guus Hiddink’s press conference, it was announced that Terry has been offered a new one-year contract extension.

All of the focus will now be on Terry as Chelsea have placed the ball in his court and the club also had the following to say on its offer.

“With it coming so late in the season, this is a big decision for John and his family and it is something that they are now considering.”

The Blues could certainly use Terry next season with Kurt Zouma suffering a long-term knee injury and after Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill, they look very short in that area. Young U.S. defender Matt Miazga is unlikely to be ready to be a first team regular in the next few years, so keeping Terry around is a must.

Chelsea’s long-time captain is a proud man and it took a lot for him to come out and reveal the club didn’t want to keep him around.

Now, though, the situation has changed. Will JT return for his 19-straight season at the bridge in 2016-17? Let’s see how this plays out.
