Rayo boss feels “humiliated and abused” after conceding 10 to Real Madrid

Real Madrid smashed ten goals past Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, in match that left the visitors feeling “humiliated and abused.”

Rayo led the match 2-1 early but were forced to nine-men after two first half red cards, leading to a barrage of Real goals and a final scoreline of 10-2.

Gareth Bale scored four times, Karim Benzema had a hat-trick, and Cristiano Ronaldo added two more. Danilo would also get on the scoresheet.

After the match, Rayo boss Paco Jemez said the match was a loss for Spanish football as a whole.

We feel humiliated and abused. This doesn’t benefit Madrid, or us or Spanish football. We’ve lost a lot of credibility.

Today, nobody won, we all lost. It’s shameful, a disgrace. These are things which happen and I hope that we don’t see it happening again anywhere else.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen anything so weird and embarrassing. My first reaction is to give my support to the players who made a great effort today. It’s difficult to console them because they feel completely humiliated and trampled on.

The majority of the people here didn’t like what they were seeing - how can something like this happen in ‘the best league in the world’? It shouldn’t happen anywhere.

Jemez is right in his comments that a 10-2 thrashing is not good for La Liga. While there is always a gap between top teams and bottom sides in all European leagues, it’s hard to remember the last time a team put up double-digits.

Real boss Rafa Benitez also left Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema on for the full 90 minutes, in a match that was essentially over at halftime. Putting the humiliation factor aside, it was a questionable decision for Benitez to risk an injury and not give his top players some rest in a blowout.
