On Friday Gerrard, 34, confirmed he will not sign a new deal with the club he joined as an eight-year-old and will instead embark on a new journey overseas.

Before all of that, Gerrard will play out the final five months of the season with Liverpool as he aims to end his time at Anfield on a high. Right now, let’s take a look back at five of Gerrard’s best goals for Liverpool during his glittering career as a true legend of the Premier League, English soccer and one of the world’s most famous clubs.

N0. 5 - vs. AC Milan, UEFA Champions League Final, May 2005

Not his finest strike but one of the most important. Gerrard flicked in a peach of a header at the start of the second half to make it 3-1 after Liverpool trailed AC 3-0 at the break. Gerrard was all over the pitch and inspired the Reds to a famous Champions League victory. Gerrard’s goal got it all going. Relive that famous win, below.

No. 4 - vs. Middlesbrough, Premier League, April 2005

Despite only being an equalizer in a lackluster draw with Middlesbrough, this goal was a thing of beauty. Power, swerve, dip and precision, this strike was a truly classic Gerrard goal. Phenomenal.

No. 3 - vs. West Ham, FA Cup Final, May 2006

With Liverpool trailing 2-0 against West Ham, they did it again. Gerrard equalized in stoppage time with this 40-yard screamer and the Reds won the FA Cup on penalty kicks. Gerrard had been cramping up throughout and could not run, hence why he hit this shot from so far out.

No. 2 - vs. Manchester United, Premier League, March 2001

As a born and bred Liverpool fan, the hometown hero smashed in this absolute beauty against arch rivals Manchester United. The fact that Liverpool beat United 2-0 made it even sweeter. Watch Gerrard’s powerful strike below, as Fabian Barthez hardly moved before the long-range effort flew past him.

No. 1 - vs. Olympiakos, UEFA Champions League, December 2004

Without doubt, one of the finest moments of his career. Gerrard drilled home an incredible strike in the final seconds of Liverpool’s group game with Olympiakos to seal the 3-1 win they needed to qualify for the last 16. From the commentary and his celebration, to the importance of the strike which set them on their way to an incredible Champions League success, this moment encapsulates Gerrard’s never say die attitude and how he carried Liverpool for almost two decades.
