Andre Ayew, West Ham United’s club-record signing ($23 million), lasted just 33 minutes of his Hammers debut on Monday, a 2-1 loss away to Chelsea, and is now set to be out of actions a few weeks with a thigh strain.

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic confirmed the extent of the Ghanaian international’s injury during a press conference on Wednesday. The initial hope was that Ayew would be out for just a few days, thus missing the Hammers’ Europa League qualifier against Astra Giurgiu (Thursday) and perhaps one league game, but it’ll be a matter of weeks, not days — quotes from Essex Live:

“We will wait to get the results on Andre Ayew and hopefully it is not that bad. It will be weeks and not days unfortunately.

“Hopefully only a few weeks.”

Ayew scored 12 goals in 34 league appearances for Swansea City last season, his first in the Premier League after coming over from Marseille on a free transfer last summer.
