Amick, citing league sources, reports the Heat initially attempted to include Davion Mitchell in the trade rather than Jakučionis. With Mitchell on an expiring contract, the Bucks wanted a player with more time remaining on their rookie contract. It was a reasonable ask considering two of the other players the Bucks acquired (Tyler Herro and Jaimie Jaquez Jr.) are also on expiring deals. The Bucks held out and landed Jakučionis, who has three years left on his contract. He remains an intriguing dynasty asset on the rebuilding Bucks.
  • LAL Guard #15
Reaves, who returned to action on Tuesday after missing three games with a mild left calf strain, suffered a similar injury during the first half of Thursday’s loss to the Rockets. Unfortunately, he has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain and will miss at least four weeks. Marcus Smart replaced Reaves in the lineup to begin the third quarter and should remain in that role. While the offensive output can be inconsistent, Smart’s defensive ability is much-needed, as the Lakers are among the worst in the NBA in defensive rating.
  • ATL Guard #11
No surprise here after Young returned from a knee injury and played 20 minutes against the Hornets on Thursday. The Hawks will give the 27-year-old point guard the night off for right knee injury management reasons rather than put him back on the floor for the second game of a back-to-back. Young’s next chance to play will come Sunday against the Bulls. Dyson Daniels and Jalen Johnson will have more playmaking responsibilities in his absence Friday.
  • LAL Forward-Guard #77
Dončić is away from the Lakers for personal reasons, and Thursday’s game is the first of three that they’ll play on their upcoming road trip. What his absence means for games against Boston and Philadelphia is unknown, but it leaves a massive hole in the Lakers’ lineup. LeBron James and Austin Reaves will see their usage rates increase, which is especially important for the former, given his production in Monday’s loss to the Suns. As for the spot in the starting lineup, Gabe Vincent is the most likely replacement.
  • Charania’s report indicates it’s a low-grade left groin strain for Giannis, and if he doesn’t return in November, he should be back quickly to start December. That means at least three absences for Giannis, though he could be out seven games or more, depending on how he recovers. Antetokounmpo has had one of the highest usage rates of his career this year, so there will be plenty of shots to go around. Recently, Kyle Kuzma (24 percent rostered in Yahoo! leagues) replaced Gary Trent Jr. (seven percent) in the starting lineup, but GTJ could make a return to the opening unit with Antetokounmpo out. Jericho Sims started the second half of Monday’s game against the Cavaliers, but that was likely a matchup-based decision against Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. Bobby Portis (25 percent) is another candidate to enter the starting lineup, though he has been disappointing this year. Of course, Ryan Rollins, who is enjoying a breakout season for the Bucks, had his two best games of the year when Giannis missed games earlier this year. Everyone on the Bucks will seen a bump in usage and minutes until Antetokounmpo returns.
  • GSW Guard #30
Two days after Curry dropped 46 points in a win in San Antonio, he provided an encore. He set new season-highs for both points and three-pointers in what was his best game of the season. Since being held to 11 points in a blowout loss to the Thunder, Curry has responded with 95 points and 14 triples across two games. Poor San Antonio. Up next on this road trip is a stop in New Orleans on Sunday to wrap up this week. The Pelicans have a bottom-three defensive rating this season, making this a great opportunity for Steph to stay scorching hot.
  • ATL Forward #1
Johnson was dominant in this game, recording the third triple-double of his career and his first of the season. On top of that, he set new career-highs for points, rebounds, assists and steals while matching his career-high for three-pointers. Usually it’s difficult to say if a game is truly the best of a player’s career, but it doesn’t feel hyperbolic to say that for Johnson. He started to break out last season, but shoulder injuries cut his year short. Now, he’s healthy enough to put the league on notice, and the absence of Trae Young (knee) has allowed Johnson to see a bump in usage. With Young likely still a few weeks away from returning, Johnson will continue to run the show in Atlanta, which should lead to more elite production from him. What will be interesting to see is how this team adjusts to Young’s return; the Hawks have the second-best defensive rating in the league in the month of November and have won four in a row without him.
  • HOU Forward #7
Durant’s unmatched scoring ability has elevated Houston’s offense to another level, as the Rockets boast a league-best 125.2 offensive rating through the season’s first week. The 37-year-old future Hall of Famer came out blazing in this one, knocking down 7-of-8 shots and pouring in 20 first-half points to give Houston an 18-point cushion at the break. He likely would’ve cleared the 30-point mark for the third time in six games had Boston kept it closer down the stretch. Durant will lead the Rockets into a four-game week beginning Monday at home against the Mavericks before a three-game road swing through Memphis, San Antonio, and Milwaukee.
  • SAS Forward-Center #1
Wembanyama’s percentages on the final game day of Week 1 weren’t great, but that doesn’t matter much given the robust stat line. Once again, he filled out the stat sheet, including nine “stocks,” to help the Spurs avoid losing a game they led by as much as 26 before the Nets rallied. Even on nights when his shots aren’t falling at a high rate, Wembanyama will provide elite value because of his abilities as a rebounder and defender. He’s the first player in NBA history to tally at least 100 points and 15 blocks through a team’s first three games. Denver’s Nikola Jokić has been the gold standard for fantasy centers in recent years, but he’s got company at the top of the list this season.
  • UTA Forward-Center #23
Limited to individual workouts after suffering a wrist injury while playing for Finland at EuroBasket, Markkanen fully participated in Sunday’s session. Jazz head coach Will Hardy said Friday that the forward’s limitations were about maintenance rather than significant injury concerns. Sunday’s development should be taken as a sign that Markkanen is on track to be ready to go when the Jazz open the regular season on October 22.
