Edsall loses defensive coordinator to... UConn

Exactly five weeks ago today, Maryland confirmed that Randy Edsall was leaving UConn to replace Ralph Friedgen as the Terrapins’ head coach.

Today, in an ironic example of turnabout is fair play -- or, as we like to call it, “karma, she’s a nasty wench” -- Edsall has lost one of his key assistants to his former school.

First reported by Neill Ostrout of the Connecticut Post, and later confirmed by the school, Terrapins defensive coordinator Don Brown is leaving College Park to take the same position with the Huskies.

“I am happy to have the opportunity to be coaching back in New England at the highest level at the University of Connecticut,” Brown said in a statement. “My family is in New England and I am looking forward to being there. I am excited in working with Coach Pasqualoni and his tremendous defensive experience will only help me learn and grow as a coach.

“We will have a defense that is aggressive, fast and physical. I believe in big pressure and penetration and that is what I am going to give the UConn defense. I am excited to get to the campus and work hard to get better every day.”

Brown will replace Todd Orlando, who left for the same job at Florida International after the Huskies hired Paul Pasqualoni.

In addition to three seasons at Maryland, Brown has also served as a head coach at UMass (2004-08) and Northeastern (2000-03).
