Zack Gelof (head) is back in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Angels.

Gelof carries a surreal 23-game hitting streak into this one following a brief one-game absence after being hit by a pitch in the helmet during Friday’s contest. The 26-year-old has displayed noticeably improved contact skills this season, but it remains challenging to fully buy into his recent hot streak based on his track record. The on-field production is undeniable as he’s batting .360 (32-for-89) with five homers and two steals since his hit streak began on May 25.

Jackson Holliday is back in the Orioles lineup Friday following a four-game absence due to groin tightness.

Holliday is playing second base and batting eighth against the Nationals and lefty Andrew Alvarez. This makes 10 times the Orioles have faced lefties since Holliday returned from the IL (not counting Tuesday, when he was hurt). He’s started five of those games and sat five times.

CJ Abrams is starting at shortstop and batting fourth Friday against the Orioles.

Abrams started Wednesday, but he missed games Tuesday and Thursday because of tightness in his left side.

Alejandro Kirk is out of Toronto’s lineup for Friday’s game against the Rangers.

Kirk started three games in a row from June 14-17, but he’s played just five of nine since, as the Jays are working in Bandon Valenzuela quite a bit more often than they did Tyler Heineman. It doesn’t help that Kirk is hitting only .226/.265/.258 in nine games since coming off the IL. Valenzuela is hitting .286/.340/.571 in his 13 games this month.

Blue Jays recalled LHP Adam Macko from Triple-A Buffalo.

Macko is back for a second major league stint after posting a 1.50 ERA and a 12/2 K/BB in 12 innings during the first one. He’ll likely get most of his work in the middle innings of games.

Blue Jays designated RHP Simeon Woods Richardson for assignment.

Woods Richardson is DFA’d again despite pitching 10 scoreless innings for the Blue Jays, though those 10 innings did come with seven walks and just five strikeouts. Including his time with the Twins, he has a 6.40 ERA and a hideous 31/32 K/BB in 57 2/3 innings on the year. Still, since he’s young and can soak up innings, someone else will likely want him.

According to SNYtv’s John Harper, Albert Pujols told friends he was very interested in the Mets’ managerial job before Carlos Mendoza was let go.

We’ll see if they stick to it, but the Mets are saying Andy Green will be their interim manager for the rest of the season and only then will they begin their managerial search to replace Mendoza. Green is not expected to be in that mix, as he’s planning to return to his front office job (Senior VP of baseball development). Pujols served as the manager of Dominican team in the WBC this spring and is slated to manage Estrellas in the Dominican Winter League. He interviewed with the Angels after last season before reportedly taking himself out of consideration.

Brewers activated LHP Jared Koenig from the 15-day injured list.

He takes the spot of Craig Yoho, who was sent down Thursday. Koenig had been out since early April with an elbow sprain. The Brewers had him spend nearly a full month on a rehab assignment in Triple-A, during which time he had a 3.72 ERA in 11 appearances. Koenig had a 2.87 ERA, two saves and 27 holds as one of the Brewers’ key relievers last year.

Nationals recalled RHP Zak Kent from Triple-A Rochester.

Kent, claimed off waivers from the Twins last month, will begin a second stint in the Nationals pen. He’s replacing Gus Varland, who was sent down after Thursday’s game. Kent gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings his first time around.

Guardians selected the contract of C/OF Cooper Ingle from Triple-A Columbus.

The 24-year-old Ingle will finally get a look after hitting .284/.416/.551 with 12 homers in 221 plate appearances for Columbus. The move comes eight days after he homered three times and double in a game against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Ingle had only caught as a pro until recently, but he did play a fair amount of outfield at Clemson, and he’d started seven games in left for Columbus this month. The Guardians figure to use him mostly at left field and DH. He’s not a stolen base threat and he probably won’t play against lefties, limiting his fantasy upside. Still, he’s definitely worth grabbing in two-catcher leagues, and maybe worth a try in leagues that play just one.

Guardians designated OF Stuart Fairchild for assignment.

Fairchild loses his spot after going 3-for-19 with no extra-base base in 14 games. 21 of his 27 plate appearances ended with a walk (seven) or a strikeout (14). It seems unlikely that he’ll be picked up on waivers.
