Jose Altuve exits game with possible injury

It has become routine that Yelich generally sits during Sunday afternoon games as a way to get him some rest and keep him healthy for the duration of the season. The fact that the Brewers are facing a left-hander in this one only fueled that fire. William Contreras will function as the club’s designated hitter in his place while Gary Sanchez starts behind the dish.

It’s the second straight game that the 26-year-old backstop has missed due to left hip discomfort. There haven’t been any rumblings yet that Rodriguez will require a stint on the injured list, but that could change if he doesn’t show improvement over the next couple of days.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 25-year-old infielder. Adam Frazier will start in his place at second base and will bat ninth for the Halos against Marlins’ right-hander Ryan Gusto on Sunday afternoon in Miami.

Springer was scratched from Saturday’s lineup due to tightness in his left shoulder and they’ll give him an extra day to rest on Sunday as well. The expectation is that he’ll once again be available off the bench if needed and he’s still considered day-to-day. Jesus Sanchez will serve as the team’s designated hitter while Myles Straw starts in left field and will bat ninth against Phillies’ left-hander Jesus Luzardo.

Kerry did a terrific job in his three appearances out of the Angels’ bullpen, posting a 3.95 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and a 12/2 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings. He threw 98 pitches while logging 5 2/3 innings against the Marlins on Saturday though and wasn’t going to be available for several days, prompting the Halos to replace him with a fresh arm. He should get another chance with the Angels in relatively short order.

It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 28-year-old right-hander who was pitching in the Mexican League earlier in the year. He has made 14 appearances (12 starts) at Triple-A Syracuse this season, registering an uninspiring 7.22 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and a 46/27 K/BB ratio across 52 1/3 innings. He’ll add a fresh arm capable of working multiple innings to the Mets’ bullpen.

The 28-year-old right-hander has done a nice job in seven appearances with the Mets this season, posting a 2.81 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 10/7 K/BB ratio across 16 innings. He should get another chance with the big league club before the summer is through.

The 31-year-old hurler will get his first opportunity with the Red Sox after posting a 5.55 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 49/17 K/BB ratio over 60 innings in 33 appearances at Triple-A Worcester. It’s likely that he’ll be asked to work a couple of innings during Sunday’s bullpen game against the Athletics.

Burgos worked the final three innings against the Athletics on Friday night to pick up his first career save. He wasn’t going to be available for a few days though, so the Red Sox wanted to add a fresh arm to their bullpen for Sunday’s bullpen game against the A’s, which unfortunately costs Burgos his spot on the roster for the time being. Seth Martinez was promoted from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Like most hitters in the Red Sox’ lineup, Durbin has been sizzling of late, slashing .367/.448/.510 with a homer, 10 RBI and three stolen bases in 60 plate appearances over his last 13 contests. Anthony Seigler will start in his place at third base and will bat sixth for the Red Sox on Sunday afternoon in Boston.
