General manager Jeff Luhnow floated Cosart’s name as a possible candidate at the Winter Meetings following the trade of Wilton Lopez. Cosart has only started in the minors and is viewed as one of the team’s top prospects, but his secondary stuff hasn’t developed as hoped, so the ‘Stros could try his power fastball at the back-end of the pen. Ultimately, he’s probably more likely to wind up back in the Triple-A rotation to start the season, but it’s something to file away.

Eder has been summoned to join Los Angeles’ relief mix with closer Edwin Díaz hitting the injured list with loose bodies in his right elbow. The 27-year-old southpaw was acquired in a small trade with the Nationals earlier this month. He’s made nine relief appearances in the big leagues since 2024 and figures to operate in middle relief.

It felt like a foregone conclusion that Díaz would get some time off to figure things out away from the spotlight after allowing three runs and failing to record an out during a non-save situation against the Rockies on Sunday. The 32-year-old elite fantasy closer’s fastball velocity has been down recently and the results have been cringe-inducing. Tanner Scott and Alex Vesia are the logical choices to handle the ninth-inning role during his absence. There is no timetable for his return yet.

Rooker remains without a definitive return timetable after hitting the injured list with a right oblique strain back on April 10. The 31-year-old upper-echelon fantasy slugger will need some time to ramp up activity without any setbacks before being cleared to embark on a minor league rehab assignment, which puts any sort of return estimate back into at least early May.

It’s an extremely encouraging report after Abel unexpectedly hit the injured list earlier on Monday. The 24-year-old appeared to be in the early stages of a breakout campaign, reeling off 13 scoreless frames with a 16/3 K/BB ratio across 13 innings over his past two starts. He’s likely to face a multi-week absence, even in a best-case scenario, but it doesn’t sound like preliminary imaging turned up any structural damage that could’ve led to surgery. It’ll be intriguing prospect Kendry Rojas, who came over in the Louis Varland trade with the Blue Jays last year, taking his spot in the Twins rotation for now.

It’ll be Hader’s second time facing hitters as he continues to work his way back from a biceps issue that caused him to open the season on the injured list. The 32-year-old upper-echelon closer isn’t eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list until at least late May. He’ll presumably be cleared to kick off a rehab assignment at some point soon.

Imai is starting to ramp up his throwing program after hitting the injured list with arm fatigue earlier this month. The 27-year-old underwent an MRI that didn’t reveal any structural damage. He also divulged to reporters that he’s struggled to make the transition to life in the majors both on and off the field during his Astros debut. He doesn’t appear close to returning to Houston at this juncture.

Loftin gets the call to join Kansas City’s bench with veteran Jonathan India hitting the injured list with a shoulder ailment. The 27-year-old is capable of handling multiple spots defensively and makes sense in a reserve role at the highest level. He’s gotten into 147 games for the Royals since 2023.

The encouraging news here is that India didn’t suffer a complete dislocation, but he’s going to be on the shelf for a couple weeks. The versatile 29-year-old has played sparingly for the Royals over the past couple weeks ever since Michael Massey came back from the injured list.

Moniak takes a seat with lefty Justin Wrobleski toeing the rubber for Los Angeles during Monday’s series opener at Coors Field. Jordan Beck takes over in left field with Tyler Freeman in the opposite corner. The 27-year-old outfielder is up to six round-trippers through 16 games after belting a career-high 24 over 135 games in his Rockies debut last year. He’s unexpectedly morphed into a potent power hitter after arriving in the big leagues a half-decade ago with almost zero over-the-fence pop.

Wilson gets the nod to join Seattle’s active roster in a bench role with versatile Brendan Donovan heading to the injured list with a groin strain. The 27-year-old former first-round pick has bounced around the last couple seasons, but got into 34 games for the Guardians this past year.
