Jake Burger went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and three runs scored in a win over the Padres on Sunday.

Burger now has 22 home runs and 53 RBI on the season and has been on a tear since July 1st, clubbing 14 home runs and driving in 24 runs in 33 games. He’s also 16-for-44 (.363) with seven home runs in just 11 games in August. He needs to be rostered in all leagues while his bat is this hot.

Grant Holmes is available to pitch out of the bullpen against the Giants this weekend.

The Braves declined to send Hurtson Waldrep back to the minors today, so it looks like they could be considering inserting him into the rotation in Holmes’ place. Holmes has pitched just 10 1/3 innings and walked 10 while posting a 6.10 ERA in his last three starts. He’s 4-4 with a 4.17 ERA in 15 starts this season.

Angels signed LHP Sammy Peralta to a minor league contract.

Peralta was DFA’d by the Rockies on Sunday, cleared waivers and opted for free agency. This will be his second go with the Angels; he finished last season with the club, giving up 12 runs — nine earned — in 10 2/3 innings before being claimed off waivers by the Brewers in October and later landing in Colorado. The 28-year-old has a 5.40 ERA in 48 1/3 career major league innings.

Braden Montgomery went 2-for-4 with one RBI in Chicago’s 2-1 win over the Royals on Saturday.

Montgomery led off the fifth inning with a base hit and was caught stealing second, his first steal attempt of the season. He then put the White Sox on the board with a base hit in the seventh, driving in a run to tie the game. Montgomery then bunted for a hit in the ninth to put the winning run on third before Jacob Gonzalez delivered the walk-off hit. The 23-year-old outfielder has been an everyday player since his debut, hitting .246/.302/.439 with two homers, 10 runs, and eight RBI across 63 plate appearances.

Grant Taylor tossed two scoreless innings with four strikeouts to fall in line for a win against the Royals on Saturday.

Taylor took over on the mound for Chicago with the game tied at 1-1 in the eighth inning. He tossed two perfect frames, striking out four batters before the White Sox walked it off with a run in the bottom of the ninth, giving Taylor the victory. The 24-year-old right-hander has had some inconsistencies this season, but has been the best option for Chicago in the back end of the bullpen, posting a 2.83 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and a 60/12 K/BB ratio across 41 1/3 innings while converting two saves.

Davis Martin tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts in a no-decision against the Royals on Saturday.

Martin had a relatively easy day on the mound as he coasted through five scoreless innings, pitching into the sixth in a no-decision against the Royals. After stranding runners on second and third in the second inning, he allowed just one other runner to reach scoring position, leaving Bobby Witt Jr. at second as he departed with one out in the sixth. Martin struck out three. That’s two strong starts now following his nine-run outing against the Yankees on June 16. The 29-year-old right-hander will take a 3.00 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 90/24 K/BB ratio across 93 innings into a start against the Guardians in Cleveland on Thursday.

Michael Wacha allowed one run and struck out seven batters over 7 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Saturday.

Wacha was brilliant against the White Sox on Saturday, holding them scoreless over his first six innings of work. Chicago would finally break through with a run on two hits and a groundout in the seventh. Wacha returned for the eighth and recorded the first two outs before allowing two runners to reach. That would end his day at 105 pitches (70 strikes). He struck out seven. The 34-year-old right-hander will take a 3.31 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and an 84/30 K/BB ratio across 108 2/3 innings into a start against the Phillies in Kansas City next Saturday.

Athletics acquired RHP Hayden Juenger from the Blue Jays for C Owen Carapellotti.

Juenger was DFA’d by the Jays earlier this week. In his MLB debut, the 25-year-old gave up three earned runs over two innings in two appearances for the Jays earlier this season. Primarily a reliever the last four years, he has a 4.71 ERA and a 251/113 K/BB in 237 career innings in Triple-A. The A’s figure to stick him in their Triple-A bullpen for now.

Blue Jays acquired C Owen Carapellotti from the Athletics for RHP Hayden Juenger.

Carapellotti, 23, went undrafted last year after batting .289/.403/.565 in four seasons as Georgetown’s catcher, but he’s kept hitting as a pro; he was at .267/.389/.627 with eight homers in 90 plate appearances for Low-A Stockton this season, though he’s missed the last month with some sort of injury.

Athletics designated INF Brett Harris for assignment.

The 28-year-old Harris has spent his entire career in the A’s organization since being drafted in the seventh round in 2021 and has hit .194/.307/.289 in 213 major league plate appearances since debuting in 2024. He is at .336/.441/.537 in 37 games for Triple-A Las Vegas this year, but it still seems pretty likely that he’ll clear waivers.
