MLB Network’s Jon Morosi said that “it’s highly unlikely” that the Padres will trade Dylan Cease to the Yankees.
With Gerrit Cole (Tommy John surgery) out for the season and Luis Gil (lat) out until June, there are some rumors that the Yankees will trade for a starting pitcher to help fill the gaps in their rotation. However, Morosi said the Yankees are unlikely to make a deal for Dylan Cease because the team is not in the position to add more salary to their roster, and they also don’t have the depth in their farm system to deal for a starter who has one year remaining on his deal. While things could change, Morosi believes the Yankees are more likely to sign a free agent like Kyle Gibson or Lance Lynn.

Clayton Beeter (forearm) struck out two and allowed one run in one innings on Wednesday in a minor league rehab appearance in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League.
Nationals manager Blake Butera told reporters Beeter won’t require a lengthy rehab assignment, which seems to signal that he’ll return to the club’s closing role before the end of May. The 27-year-old stopper hit the shelf with forearm soreness back in late April.
Twins' Ober worth streaming in 'right matchups'
Though he's fresh off a complete game shutout, Bailey Ober's underlying metrics suggest he shouldn't be relied on as a set-and-forget fantasy start, but rather as a streamer in ideal matchups.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #77
Dodgers RHP prospect River Ryan (hamstring) will start on Friday for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Ryan will be making his first start in the minors since April 11 when he suffered a hamstring injury. The 27-year-old top pitching prospect looked sharp in spring training coming off Tommy John surgery and figures to get a shot in Los Angeles’ rotation mix at some point later this summer.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #17
Shohei Ohtani is pitching on Tuesday against the Giants, but is not in the lineup at DH.
Teoscar Hernández is at DH with Alex Call taking over in left field. Ohtani had been scuffling at the plate, hitting .200/.321/.300 with one home run over his previous 26 games before going deep off Giants starter Adrian Houser during Tuesday’s contest. The Dodgers are making a concerted effort to reduce the 31-year-old two-way sensation’s workload to keep him fresher at the plate moving forward. He’ll get a full day off Thursday before returning for Friday’s series opener against the Angels.
  • SEA 3rd Baseman #33
Brendan Donovan is out of the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Astros.
The Mariners are going to closely monitor Donovan’s workload after missing time this season in an attempt to prevent further groin issues related to last year’s sports hernia surgery. It’ll be Leo Rivas taking over at the hot corner on Wednesday night in his place.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #44
Ryan Pepiot underwent season-ending hip surgery on Wednesday.
Pepiot is facing a six-month rehabilitation process from the procedure and is expected to be a full-go for the outset of spring training. The 28-year-old hit the injured list just prior to Opening Day with hip inflammation and ended up requiring surgery following a setback in late April.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #63
Athletics recalled RHP Mason Barnett from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Barnett returns to the Athletics relief corps with Brooks Kriske heading to the injured list with a shoulder impingement. The 25-year-old reliever tossed two scoreless frames in his lone outing in the big leagues last month.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #61
Athletics placed RHP Brooks Kriske on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement.
No word yet regarding how much time Kriske will miss. The 32-year-old journeyman reliever was just called up from Triple-A Las Vegas last week. He tossed 2 2/3 scoreless frames in a pair of appearances for the Athletics prior to the injury.
  • ATH Center Fielder
Henry Bolte is in center field and hitting fifth on Wednesday against the Cardinals in his major-league debut.
Bolte receives his first opportunity after being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier this week where he was slashing an other-worldly .348/.418/.658 with 12 homers and 17 steals across 37 games in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. The 22-year-old offers an interesting power/speed combo skillset and made some significant strides in the contact department this season, slashing his strikeout rate from 33 percent last year to just 22 percent. There are some playing time concerns that could chip away at his immediate fantasy upside, but he’s at least worthy of a speculative roster spot in deeper mixed leagues.
  • PHI Shortstop #7
Trea Turner is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s contest against the Red Sox due to illness.
Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly told reporters Turner could potentially be available off the bench. The 32-year-old power/speed combo threat has hit a bit of a rough patch recently, hitting .182 (8-for-44) with 10 strikeouts since the start of May. It’ll be Edmundo Sosa taking over at shortstop and hitting ninth with a sizzling-hot Kyle Schwarber moving up to the leadoff spot to face Red Sox veteran righty Sonny Gray at Fenway Park.
  • NYM Center Fielder
A.J. Ewing is in center field and hitting eighth on Wednesday against the Tigers.
Ewing scalded an RBI triple, walked three times and stole a base during his major-league debut on Tuesday night at Citi Field. The 21-year-old top prospect has a relatively unobstructed path to everyday at-bats in center field with Luis Robert Jr. (back) not progressing as quickly in his rehab as originally hoped. He has the skillset required to serve as a dynamic top-of-the-order catalyst, but the Mets aren’t going to put too much pressure on him right out of the gate. Still, Ewing projects as a strong batting average and stolen base source for fantasy managers and is worthy of a speculative roster spot in all leagues until further notice.
