Hunter Dobbins hurled six scoreless innings Friday in a no-decision against the Royals.

Dobbins struck out six and walked none. With a 2.78 ERA and a 19/4 K/BB in 22 2/3 innings, he’s definitely looked like one of Boston’s top five starters so far, though it seems highly unlikely that the team will bounce Walker Buehler, Tanner Houck or Lucas Giolito in order to make room for him. He could stick for now and make one more start before Buehler comes off the IL.

The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reports the Astros are signing 1B/OF LaMonte Wade Jr. to a major-league contract.

It’s unclear if Wade will be sent to the minors or if he’ll actually get a MLB roster spot at this time, but he was hitting .250/.420/.441 with seven homers for Triple-A Charlotte before requesting his release on June 1.

Diamondbacks recalled LHP Phillip Abner from Triple-A Reno.

Abner, still just 24, allowed 2 runs in 2 1/3 innings in a stint with the Diamondbacks earlier this year. He hasn’t done much better at Triple-A Reno, with a 5.12 ERA in 19 1/3 innings, but is probably the slight favorite to remain in the pen once Taylor Clarke returns from the bereavement list over Kade Strowd.

AZ Relief Pitcher #24

Diamondbacks recalled RHP Kade Strowd from Triple-A Reno.

Strowd had a 1.71 ERA in 25 games with the Orioles last year, but was at a 4.95 ERA in 20 appearances with (admittedly a hitting environment) Reno, walking 16 in 20 innings with a 1.80 WHIP. He’ll likely have a low-leverage role for the time being.

Taylor Clarke

AZ Relief Pitcher #45

Diamondbacks placed RHP Taylor Clarke on the bereavement list.

It’s actually a pretty big loss for the Diamondbacks in the short term, as the veteran had a 1.73 ERA in 26 innings, striking out 13 and walking just four over 28 appearances. Clarke appears to have figured out something over the past two seasons as he’s drastically cut his walk rate.

Diamondbacks optioned RHP Brandon Pfaadt to Triple-A Reno.

Pfaadt will need to get stretched out as a starter to rejoin the rotation, and this figures to be a somewhat lengthy assignment in light of that news. Pfaadt wasn’t exactly helping the team in the bullpen anyway, as he had just two holds while allowing four home runs and 13 earned runs in 15 innings.

Reds sent C Jose Trevino (hamstring) on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Louisville.

He’s been on the injured list since May 17. Once healthy, Trevino figures to replace PJ Higgins as the Reds backup catcher. Again.

Corey Seager

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports Corey Seager (back) is expected to rejoin the Rangers this weekend.

Seager began a rehab assignment on Tuesday in Double-A and doesn’t look to need much more time to get his feet wet. He could potentially be available for Friday’s game against the Guardians.

Eduarniel Núñez

BAL Relief Pitcher

Orioles designated RHP Eduarniel Núñez for assignment.

Acquired in mid-May from the Athletics for cash considerations, the Orioles decided they’d rather pay out more considerations for Kyle Nicolas than move forward with Núñez on the roster. What could have changed the way Baltimore feels about Núñez? Our guess is the 15.75 ERA in four innings — along with eight walks — for Triple-A Norfolk since reporting. There’s probably a better chance he gets through waivers this time.

Kyle Nicolas

BAL Relief Pitcher #62

Orioles acquired RHP Kyle Nicolas from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for cash considerations; optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk.

Nicolas, a former Pirate, had been in the Reds organization only since early March. 17 walks in 15 2/3 innings at Triple-A Louisville says there’s still a lot to work on in the minor leagues. The 27-year-old will try to get back on track with the Tides.

Tyler Samaniego

BOS Starting Pitcher #78

Red Sox optioned LHP Tyler Samaniego to Triple-A Worcester.

An unsuccessful appearance as an opener against the Guardians pushed Samaniego’s ERA to 2.66 on the season, and he threw 34 pitches on Tuesday, so the Red Sox opted for a fresher arm. Samaniego’s 1.47 WHIP is a little high, but otherwise he doesn’t appear to have much to prove in the minors. This is just how lower-roster relievers are shuttled about these days.
