Jake Meyers went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and also stole a base on Monday, leading the Astros to a 4-3 victory over the Rays.
Meyers picked up his eighth stolen base of the season in the early stages of the contest before walloping a tie-breaking opposite-field solo shot — his third long ball of the season — off Rays reliever Manuel Rodríguez in the seventh inning. The 28-year-old outfielder putting together a career year so far, hitting .301/.368/.426 with three homers and eight steals through 46 games.

Brewers recalled LHP Brian Fitzpatrick from Triple-A Nashville.
The 26-year-old left-hander gets another opportunity to work out of the Brewers’ bullpen with DL Hall (pectoral) landing on the injured list on Friday. He has made four appearances with the big league club so far this season, registering a 1.59 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and a 4/3 K/BB ratio over 5 2/3 innings.
PCA showing signs of offensive breakout in June
James Schiano discusses the improvement that Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong has made on offense in recent weeks, including the .455 batting average and 1.409 OPS he has posted in his last five games.

Brewers placed LHP DL Hall on the 15-day injured list with a left pectoral strain.
Hall suffered the injury during Thursday’s outing against the Giants. Still no word on the results of his MRI exam or how long he may be sidelined for. Brian Fitzpatrick was recalled from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move on Friday to take his spot in the Brewers’ bullpen.
  • STL Shortstop #26
JJ Wetherholt was held out of the Cardinals’ starting lineup for the second straight game on Friday due to a lower body injury.
Wetherholt was given what was thought to be a routine day off on Wednesday, but he’s actually battling a lower body injury. He’s considered day-to-day. Bryan Torres will start in his place at second base and will bat fifth for the Cardinals against Brady Singer and the Reds.
  • ATH Designated Hitter #25
Brent Rooker (knee) returned to the Athletics’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Astros.
Rooker was held out of the lineup on Thursday against the Cubs, though he did appear as a pinch hitter. He’s serving as the A’s designated hitter and batting cleanup against Astros’ right-hander Peter Lambert on Friday evening in Houston.
  • TB Shortstop #6
Taylor Walls (hamstring) returned to the Rays’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Marlins in Miami.
Walls missed each of the team’s previous two games due to a recurring hamstring issue. He feels much improved after a couple of days off though and is back in there at shortstop and batting ninth against Ryan Gusto and the Marlins on Friday evening in Miami.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #37
Athletics recalled RHP Elvis Alvarado from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Alvarado, 27, has been knocked around in 10 appearances with the Athletics this season, posting a cringe-inducing 8.38 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and a 9/7 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings. He’ll function in a middle relief role for manager Mark Kotsay and can be ignored for fantasy purposes.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #67
Athletics designated RHP Joel Kuhnel for assignment.
The 31-year-old hurler came on with a three-run lead to protect in the ninth inning against the Cubs on Thursday afternoon and gave up four runs on five hits to take the loss. That appears to have been the final nail in his coffin. Kuhnel posted a respectable 4.21 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a 14/6 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings while notching four saves in 25 appearances for the A’s. He shouldn’t be out of work for long.
  • AZ 3rd Baseman
Diamondbacks selected the contract of INF LuJames Groover from Triple-A Reno.
It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 24-year-old infielder who was selected by the Diamondbacks in the second round of the 2023 draft. Groover was off to a nice start at the Triple-A level, slashing .322/.421/.452 with three homers, 39 RBI, two stolen bases and a 43/37 K/BB ratio across 256 plate appearances. Unless he finds his way into an everyday role, it’s difficult to envision a path to mixed league fantasy relevancy for Groover.
  • AZ Designated Hitter #11
Diamondbacks optioned INF Jose Fernandez to Triple-A Reno.
With the Diamondbacks’ infield getting healthy, Fernandez had been relegated to a bench role in recent weeks and it sounds like they want him to continue to get everyday at-bats at the Triple-A level to stay ready if another injury strikes. The 22-year-old held his own with the D’Backs, hitting .255/.289/.352 with three homers, 15 RBI and seven stolen bases in his first 177 plate appearances.
  • AZ Relief Pitcher #54
Diamondbacks designated RHP Taylor Rashi for assignment.
The 30-year-old hurler has struggled in three appearances with the Diamondbacks this season, but holds a terrific 1.03 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a 26/12 K/BB ratio over 26 1/3 innings at Triple-A Reno in the notoriously hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. It wouldn’t be surprising to see another team come calling on waivers.
