Robbie Ray allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings in a win over the Padres on Thursday.

The left-hander struck out nine and walked one while posting a 40 percent whiff rate and 40 percent CSW on the day. He dominated the Padres with his changeup and showed great command of the four-seamer in this one. It was another in a long line of great starts for Ray, who will now carry a 2.44 ERA into a start in Coors Field. He’s been too good to bench for that one.

Suárez had started each of the team’s previous 11 games, so the 34-year-old slugger has certainly earned a day off. Sal Stewart will slide over and cover third base, Spencer Steer will start at first and Nathaniel Lowe will function as the team’s designated hitter on Sunday afternoon against Cardinals’ right-hander Michael McGreevy.

Nick Allen will start in his place at second base and will bat ninth for the Astros against A’s left-hander Gage Jump on Sunday afternoon in Houston.

Henry Bolte is not in the Athletics’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s showdown against the Astros.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 22-year-old outfielder. Lawrence Butler will start in his place in center field and will bat sixth for the A’s against Astros’ right-hander Mike Burrows.

Chandler Simpson (thumb) was held out of the Rays’ lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Marlins.

It’s the second straight game that Simpson has missed due to a thumb contusion that has been bothering him throughout the week. It still doesn’t sound like something that’s going to require a trip to the injured list, but fantasy managers should be sure to monitor his status on Monday just to be on the safe side. Ryan Vilade will start in his place in left field and will bat seventh against Marlins’ right-hander Sandy Alcantara on Sunday.

J.P. Crawford

J.P. Crawford (hand) was held out of the Mariners’ lineup for the second consecutive game for Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers in Detroit.

Crawford was drilled on the hand by Framber Valdez on Friday night and has now missed each of the next two games. While X-rays came back negative for any fractures, he’s still dealing with a bit of pain and swelling in his hand. Colt Emerson will once again slide over and cover shortstop while Patrick Wisdom will start at third base and bat seventh for the M’s.

Daulton Varsho

Daulton Varsho (wrist) was held out of the Blue Jays’ starting lineup once again on Sunday.

Varsho was pulled from Friday’s series opener against the Orioles due to inflammation in his left wrist and has now been held out of the next two contests, though he did appear as a defensive replacement on Saturday. He’s still considered day-to-day. Myles Straw will make another start in center field and will bat ninth for the Jays against Shane Baz and the Orioles on Sunday afternoon in Toronto.

Michael Harris II (back) remains out of the Braves’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Pirates.

The dynamic 25-year-old was pulled from Friday’s game due to tightness in his back. The Braves still believe that it’s a minor issue and that Harris won’t require a trip to the injured list. Mauricio Dubon will once again take his place in center field and will bat second for the Braves against Mason Montgomery and the Pirates on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.

Reds optioned RHP Luis Mey to Triple-A Louisville.

With Rhett Lowder (shoulder) set to rejoin the Reds on Sunday, someone had to get removed from the active roster to free up a spot and Mey wound up drawing the short straw this time around. The 24-year-old righty holds a 7.27 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and a 14/10 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings with the Reds this season.

CIN Starting Pitcher #25

Reds activated RHP Rhett Lowder from the 15-day injured list.

As anticipated, Lowder will make his return to the Reds’ rotation on Sunday against the Cardinals. He has been shelved since May 13 due to pain in his pitching shoulder. The 24-year-old hurler holds an uninspiring 5.40 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and a 27/18 K/BB ratio over 38 1/3 innings in eight starts for the Reds this season.

Jake Bennett

BOS Starting Pitcher #64

Jake Bennett was scratched from his scheduled start at Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.

The expectation is that Bennett will join the Red Sox early next week to take the rotation spot that was vacated by the struggling Brayan Bello. The 25-year-old hurler has been dominant at the Triple-A level this season, posting a 1.60 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and a 41/9 K/BB ratio across 39 1/3 innings.
