Michael Wacha shut out the A’s for six innings for his 10th win Saturday.
Wacha ends the year 10-13 with a 3.86 ERA in a career-high 172 2/3 innings. His career-low 17.6% strikeout rate wouldn’t seem to bode well going forward, but this makes four straight years as at least a slightly above average starting pitcher. He has about 12 bWAR since he turned 30, compared to 8.1 bWAR in nine seasons from ages 21-29.

Tigers placed RHP Casey Mize on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 28, with right adductor inflammation.
The Tigers had been hopeful that Mize would be able to avoid a return trip to the injured list after leaving Wednesday’s start with another groin issue, but they’ll take the cautious approach and sit him down to make sure it heals properly. Beau Brieske was activated from the 60-day injured list to take his place on the active roster on Friday.

James Schiano discusses what the long-awaited return of right-handed pitcher Jared Jones means for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  • SF Right Fielder #51
Giants activated OF Jung Hoo Lee from the 10-day injured list.
The 27-year-old outfielder has been shelved since May 22 due to a back strain. He’s starting in right field and batting sixth for the Giants for Friday’s series opener against the Rockies in Colorado.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #54
Giants placed RHP Tyler Mahle on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 27, with a left hamstring strain.
On the day that the Giants get Logan Webb (knee) back from the injured list, their rotation loses an arm as Mahle lands on the injured list. No word yet on how long the 31-year-old hurler will be shelved for.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #62
Giants activated RHP Logan Webb from the 15-day injured list.
The 29-year-old right-hander will make his triumphant return to the Giants’ rotation on Friday against the Rockies. He missed just over three weeks due to right knee issues. Webb returns to a 5.06 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 42/15 K/BB ratio across 48 innings.
  • CHC Designated Hitter #25
Moisés Ballesteros is not in the Cubs’ starting lineup for Friday night’s tilt against the Cardinals.
The 22-year-old has been mired in a prolonged slump at the dish, so giving him a night off to clear his head isn’t the worst possible idea. Michael Conforto will serve as the team’s designated hitter in his place and will bat seventh against Cardinals’ right-hander Andre Pallante on Friday evening in St. Louis.
  • LAA Designated Hitter #12
Jorge Soler is not in the Angels’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Rays in Tampa Bay.
It appears to be nothing more than a routine evening off for the 34-year-old slugger. Mike Trout will serve as the designated hitter in his absence while Jose Siri will start in center field and bat ninth for the Halos against Rays’ right-hander Nick Martinez.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher
Marlins recalled RHP Josh Ekness from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Ekness, 24, has done a nice job in his limited action with the Marlins this season, registering a 1.69 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 5/5 K/BB ratio across 5 1/3 innings in his six appearances. Expect him to be utilized in a middle relief role.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #39
Marlins placed RHP Eury Pérez on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 28, with a right hamstring strain.
The 23-year-old hurler suffered the injury during Wednesday’s start against the Blue Jays. No word yet from the team on how long they expect Pérez to be sidelined for. Josh Ekness was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville to provide a fresh bullpen arm for a few days until the Marlins decide how to fill Pérez’s spot in the rotation.
  • MIA 3rd Baseman #21
Marlins optioned 3B Graham Pauley to Triple-A Jacksonville.
With Leo Jiménez (head) returning from the injured list on Friday, Pauley will return to an everyday role at the Triple-A level until his services are needed once more. The 25-year-old has hit just .165/.211/.271 with one homer and nine RBI in 91 plate appearances with the Marlins this season.
  • MIA 3rd Baseman #19
Marlins activated INF Leo Jiménez from the 7-day concussion injured list.
The 25-year-old infielder had been sidelined since May 21 due to concussion symptoms. He returns to a .227/.327/.250 slash line with zero homers and one RBI in his first 52 plate appearances with the Marlins. Graham Pauley was optioned back to Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move on Friday.
